Back at the beginning of April (2022) I was inspired to try and re-create the iconic Nintendo 64 logo - the "N Cube" - in Minecraft, which proved to not be as hard as I was envisioning. I always save cute projects like that as structures to copy-paste later as I need. But as I was saving it and filing it away, an idea began to form. I had always wanted to learn about custom world generation and mess around with it... and with custom structure support having been re-implemented for 1.18.2, what better time to learn?
I proceeded to post a rather compromised rendition of my vision, which was held back by the lacking capabilities of 1.18.2 custom worldgen. But not only has the move to 1.19 opened up many new possibilities in terms of customisation, this time I've really put in the hours - not stopping at anything until I would accomplish my vision.
This pack randomly places a bunch of multi-coloured concrete N Cubes across a world. They can appear just about anywhere in the overworld - mountaintops to valleys, riverbanks to ocean trenches - and will often be buried a few blocks down, wedged into the side of a slope, or surrounded by trees. The pack is still far from complete, but it is definitely a lot more interesting in Survival mode than it was before, with loot chests and rare Explorer Maps to find...
They're not really hard to find if you look for them, but an average distance of about 600 blocks between them means they won't be interfering with normal gameplay if you want to ignore them, nor will they be an OP source of concrete.
...However, if you're lucky enough, they can be an OP source of other things. In its current form, there are 9 implemented variants of the N Cube to discover. These can be anywhere from a massive nuisance (flooded with lava) to completely worthless (just a few torches on the inside) to massively overpowered (made entirely of mineral blocks!) - the very epitome of the cliché "like a box of chocolates." If you spot one, don't pass up the opportunity to go and check it out.
I've got all sorts of ideas for where I could take this thing next... secret passageways, Nether variants, giant variants, possibly even logos for other consoles? Who knows! I'm just super happy that I've made it this far.
Current rarities:
Concrete N Cube - 47 out of 50
New snapshots will often break this Pack, so do check back here when a new one releases.
Working in: 1.19.1 Release Candidate 2
Please comment your ideas and report issues! Thanks so much!
