Want to save stray villagers instead of tripping over a full town every few thousand blocks? This might suit you!

Here's a spin-off from a project I've been working on for various village sizes.

With this simple datapack, a path with a home on one end and a work-site on the other (plus a few plains decor points for variety) takes the place of every village. Home and job-site are chosen randomly from the entire list of houses and work-structures (no meeting points) currently in every village, so you can find an igloo house with a savanna library on the desert or a desert home with a plains animal pen sitting on the tundra. While this pack doesn't change how often villages happen, it makes them into 1-3 villagers in 1-2 buildings that may contain job-blocks- an easy-to-miss base camp that you can raid or build up as you see fit. Having the full pool of homes and work-sites makes for interesting variety, so even finding a pillager outpost surrounded by 'villages' shouldn't get repetitive.

Sample images are from a single-biome plains world, seed -146931563, at a pillager outpost found roughly -2200, ~, -150. As you can see, the place is surrounded by villages. The last two images, however, are the closest village to spawn - hiding on the other side of a mountain and easily missed when I flew over it.

    --- TECHNICAL INFORMATION ---

While this pack was made with the current version of Minecraft, it should be compatible as far back as you can use datapacks with one caveat:

You will have to rename the 'structure' nbt folder found in scmsizes to 'structures' in older versions.

This pack overrides the base code that chooses which village to place based off of biome. It should be compatible with any pack that does not change which villages spawn, but it will not incorporate new structures from other mods unless those are replacements with the same name as existing structures. New, larger structures (reusing names) may cause conflicts between the placement of two structures at the spacing I believe to be adequate with current structures, and could thus result in only one structure generating per settlement.

      Have something to say?
