Tridents from Monuments is a simple 1.19 datapack that allows you getting tridents from the Ocean Monuments by killing all the three Elder Guardians.

The loot in the Ocean Monuments was always very poor. So I decided to make it a bit better. It's really simple - every Elder Guardian now drops one item of Trident Fragments (along with 0 to 2 Nautilus shells, I really tried to make killing the Guardian more rewarding). Craft the three pieces of fragments together and get yourself a brand new Trident!

(Yes, i also retextured the trident so it finally doesn't look like a big fat chonky fork)

I've also added a new advancement that can be obtained only by killing the Elder Guardian and that unlocks the new recipe for the trident. I mean, it's generally considered to be a small boss so why there is not any advancement so far? I also suggest playing with the language set to US English, so the Trident Fragments display its name.

Drowneds still spawn with tridents obtainable by killing them as usual. I still wanted Drowneds to have some purpose except being annoying. But the chance is that small that you will rather want to get the trident from the Ocean Monument.

NOTE: Don't forget to download the Resource Pack too, without it the Trident Fragments will appear as a command block.

PS.: This is my very first datapack, so if you find any bugs or you think something could have been done better, tell me pls. The datapack should work on all versions up from 1.16 but it's primarily made for 1.19.

Tridents from Monuments 2.0 : by Tinquinoxe 11/04/2022 3:12:09 pmNovember 4, 2022 @ 7:12 pm UTC

The placeholder item for the Trident Fragments is no longer a popped chorus fruit but a command block. Thus, the datapack is now more multiplayer-friendly since the command block is unusable in survival mode and no one can bypass the trident crafting by farming chorus :D

For the change you have to update both the datapack and the resource pack.

  Have something to say?

Very nice! In my pack I added 2 items to do this, but you figured out a way to use just one. Brilliant.

The only problem is you can craft tridents out of the popped chorus fruit

I know right, thats the part im least proud of. However, I havent found any other way to do it. I thought of the command block since it is not usable in survival, but I dont want the trident fragments to have the epic purple item color. Do you have any ideas how to fix it? You definitely understand datapacking better than me lol

Unfortunately, since recipes do not support NBT yet, that means it will ignore any additional tags you add to items to make them different. The only option I can think of would be to use a placeholder item that does not have a crafting recipe or any other use... Perhaps the recipe book is a good choice after all? that would make the items not stackable and I think you could change the color too with a texture pack if you wanted... id have to test that but either way it would still be a good choice in my opinion.

EDIT IT WORKS

Hell yes, that should do. I didnt think of the knowledge book at all. Maybe I can change the colour via the lang file I hope, i will give it some research. Thanks for the idea, ill definitely give it a try.

Yea thats what I was testing! the format would be something like:
{
"item.minecraft.knowledge_book": "§3Trident Fragment",
}

Color codes can be found here: Minecraft Color Codes (and Format Codes) (digminecraft.com)

Alright, the pack is updated. I didnt use the knowledge book tho since when you click it it disappears. So i used the command block as the placeholder item instead :D
