Vanilla Caves

Vanilla Caves is a datapack that disables the noise-based cave generation introduced in the Caves & Cliffs update.

With this datapack, only the classic carver-based cave system remains, restoring the simpler and more structured cave networks from pre-1.18 Minecraft. It is ideal for players who prefer the old-school cave layout.

Features

  • Disables all noise-based caves (spaghetti caves, cheese caves, etc.)
  • Restores classic carver-based cave generation only
    • Slightly enlarged caves
    • Reduced number of surface cave entrances
    • Increased frequency of underground caves
  • Only affects newly generated chunks
  • No other terrain features are changed

This datapack is amazing, thank you for creating this. Based on the comments here, I feel like you're not getting enough love and appreciation for the work you put into this, so again, huge thank you from me for this. As someone who was not a fan of the 1.18 Caves and Cliffs noise-based terrain gen, this is awesome and lets me enjoy all the new content and biomes without tedious sinkholes and cave entrances that look like gaping maws of hell.

Hi, I have a simple question: does the datapack remove ancient cities or similar structures? And are negative layers retained with new blocks like amethyst and all that?

Sorry for my bad english, im using google translate lol

Hey! No, the data pack does not remove any structures.
Even the negative levels with blocks such as amethyst, etc., remain intact.

Only the generation of the caves themselves is changed.

Mod does not work. Cannot load into existing worlds, and when I create a new world, it hangs on "Preparing for world creation".

Is the Fabric Mod or the datapack not working? Which version of Minecraft are you using?

I said mod, so it's the mod. 1.21.11. You know. The latest version?

I found a different mod that does the same thing anyways.

I have now fixed the bug. The Fabric Mod now works with Minecraft version 1.21.11.
Sorry for the inconvenience and the long wait.

I would really appreciate it if you would still give this mod a try.

Just got back into minecraft after some years and hate the swiss cheese surface, so thanks for the mod. It does not seem to work in worlds with large biome generation?

Thank you, I will test this datapack in a large biomes world and fix it if necessary.
