Are ancient cities too hard to find?

Are wandering traders completely useless?

If your answer was yes to either or both of these questions than this pack is for you! With this pack, the wandering trader has a chance to sell a crate with an ancient city explorer map inside!

I wanted to just append the map trade but that seems to be impossible as explorer maps cannot be created with commands. Instead, he sells a chest with a custom loot table with only a single explorer map inside.

Is there a way to make it so it works like the same ones as the villagers where different villagers will trade different maps if one has already been to?

If you are asking for him to sell the map directly, unfortunately not. As I mentioned in the description, it seems to be impossible to create an explorer map trade with commands, hence why I needed to use a chest with a custom loot table instead.

And if you are asking for it to "locate" a new city you haven't been to, that is possible utilizing a feature called skip loaded chunks, but I decided not to have it do that since cities are already very rare. Just travel to a new area before using the chest if you want to maybe find a new city.

Does it look for the nearest city, or just a random one in the world?

The way exploration maps work, it locates the nearest one I believe. I also have skip loaded chunks as false, meaning it will locate the nearest one even if it is already loaded. If you have already searched that city, try to find a wandering trader far away and hope he locates another.

I found a trick for finding the ancient cities, go to mountains and search for big cave entrances, so go deeper as you cane and try to search deep dark biomes generated in positive Y levels.

Yea, apparently they are more likely to generate "inland" I believe, the same conditions where mountains are most common.
