Hat layer issues
Hey, so I've tried making several different skins since the start of the usage of the 64x64 pixel skin update. However, whenever I try to do bangs or other addons on the hat layer, when I go to view the skin in game, that layer never shows up. Even ones where I download them and tweak them for my own personal use do this to me. If someone could give me a tip as to why, please let me know- I'd greatly appreciate it...

I highly recommend using MCSkin3D by Paril. It's easy to learn and works extremely well. Might fix your problem with layers too, if the above solutions don't help you.

The reason MS Paint is not compatible is because it sets all transparent spaces to white, making the hat layer look strange.
Paint.NET is a better program that works with Alpha values and transparency

But seriously, thanks for explaining why.

OHHHHHHHH! MS Paint won't work, as it is not compatible with hat layers for some reason. I would recommend Paint.net. It is another painting program made by Microsoft, and it's a lot simpler than GIMP.
Paint.net isn't made by MS.
I know it's not my settings- I changed my skin from one that also had a hat layer to this one, the old one having worked just fine <it was one that I had gotten from one of several skin databases like this one, I don't remember which. As for what program, I use MS Paint right now since I'm still pretty nubile with GIMP...
Maybe your hat settings are turned off? It's in
[Settings>Skin Customization...>UPSHUNZ]
If not that, what program are you using to skin?
