Questions for Skin Makers
What program(s) do you use to make your minecraft skins? I use Paint.net. I'm guessing a lot of people use photoshop? What do you use?

As a graphic designer, I would probably use something like MCSkin3D or Photoshop to make the base, and either continue with photoshop or switch from MCSkin to Paint.net or GIMP. However, I am not the greatest skinner in the world, my forte is programming.
Hope I helped, even though my lack of experience

I use Gimp, its really good for picking colors, starting a skin base, shading the base and its like the only program that works on mac

You should make the skin base in MCSkin3D, and shade it in Paint.NET!

A few different tools, doesnt need practice at all, no download, just create and then download skins on a website!

I anticipate a great disturbance in the force.
I *highly* recommend you use paint.net, GIMP, photoshop, fireworks, or MCskin3D. None of these 'assembly' apps.
Eh, I've used Skindex for nearly two years now, and I'm familiar with the interface. I fear that if I switch to Paint.net, (or any others) I won't be able to make as good skins. Also, I can't get MCskin3D, (I'm on a mac) and GIMP doesn't work for some reason. :c

I just use McSkin3D. X:

I use McSkin3D, I find it very easy to use, yet still a good program. Some people prefer paint.net, though I find it to be a bit more difficult for making skins. Just don't use internet skin editors as those contain parts from other skins made by (mostly popular) skinners here on PMC.

If you stay clear of Novaskin, and Minershoes, (both have armories) then your fine. And you can use em' for just creating, but IMO, Novaskin, and Minershoes have crappy makers. I like Skindex, mainly because of the 3D view. (I still don't know where the front of the arms, side of the face, etc, etc, on the .png )
But yeah, Minershoes just steals everything. Halucid has tried to get his skins off Minershoes for a while, to no avail. In fact the_soup made a blog about Minershoes and their atrocity.

I use Pixlr, or Paint.
I wouldn't prefer Skinning Programs such as Novaskin, Skincraft, or any actual skinning programs that has an armory of parts and others' skins.
I would prefer using McSkin3D, made by our PlanetMinecraft Developer Paril, it's much easier and better:

There's all. Tried to help.

Paint.NET for the outline and stuff and shading, MCskin3D for adding stuff to the hat and this program that I found on the Minecraft Forums called 'Minecraft Skin Viewer' for viewing/rendering poses of my skins.

I had phtoshop for a while, then it stopped working. Now I'm downgraded to paint.net.
So with MCSkin3D, you can color in pixels with that program, or just view skins?

Gimp, Pretty similar to Photoshop and it is free.

I use Gimp, but MCSkin3D is a great program too.
As far as photoshop goes, I don't think most skinners have the money to spend on something like that.

I always make my skins in Skincraft, but I do extra editing in MCSkin3D, Skinedit, or GIMP.
1
MCSkin3D but I might change to Paint.net to hopefully make better skins for the heck of it to restart what I am doing.

I use MCSkin3D for skins, but I use Paint.NET for all other image editing.
I might start throwing completed skins into Paint.NET to make them fancier.

Mcskin3d or net.paint
1
a combination of Paint.net and Mcskin3d. Mcskin3d takes less time to make skins but it also doesn't turn out as well in most instances
