Why do these even exist? First of all, they all look the same..just an outline of the block itself and then some kind of light source on the block. Then all the armor/items and the same basically. I mean having one simple texture pack on pmc is fine..but it's like a 50/50 between other and simple types of texture packs.

However, they are quite often the fist step that artists of texture packs have to make.

Dreams of Drean should work just fine in 1.7.10. If you like it, give it a go and see. The the file names for the texture images are the same for both 1.7.8 and 1.7.10. You shouldn't have any trouble using it. :3

No, not really. And let me explain why.
Simple texture packs can look generic and a lot are very similar. And I myself am annoyed by some of these simple texture packs. But they aren't all bad. Some are quite unique. Now I don't want to blow my own horn here, but take a look at Dreams of Drean and Retro Pompeii and tell me that they are just like all the others. If you can say this, tell me what blocks are just so similar that it becomes annoying.
One shouldn't place all simple texture packs into the same lump of "being bad". Some are, some aren't. The same applies to all the other texture packs that are realistic, cartoony or HD. Some are bad, some are great.
OCD laid down a standard that a lot of people simply can't break from. I personally dislike OCD for it's overrated fame. But time has been put into it and all the other simple texture packs.
Simply, if the creator enjoys it, let them be. I find my textures packs to be fun to play with and I personally think some of the textures are brilliant. Others may disagree, but are you going to come in and tell me that it all sucks and it should be removed?
Even if you do, I'm not going to stop and all those other people won't either. We love what we do, just as much as you love what you do.

They're technically already banned. If they are mostly solid they can be reported as they fall under spam.
That would be a fine line though. Is there a certain percentile that brings it out of being a mostly solid pack?

There can be some nice simplistic texture packs that have small dimensions (like 8x8) but still look pretty cool. But just having packs that have only 1-3 colors per texture are easy to make and look horrible.
I think by 'Simple packs' Grunge is talking more about bucket fill packs, if that's the case then yes I believe there should be a stop on these being published. It's alright for folks to use them as a learning tool... but do learn from and do something unique if you're wanting to publish something.

They are pretty fun and they are one of my first resource packs, and it helps with redstone she its simple looking. as well as alot of people hate texture packs with alot of detail. so please do keep making them.
