Computer does not do anything when I press the power button
Hello everyone. Let’s just jump right in to my issue. The gist of it is, when I press the power button, nothing happens. Here’s a bit of backstory and further explanation.
I built my computer in January and everything worked fine for a while until my PSU died, I think in April. I bought a new PSU, and it worked for a bit, but then the mother board stopped working. I started the RMA process in mid-May, and thanks to Biostar’s terrible customer service, I just received the new board today.
Anyways, I rebuilt my computer, double-checked everything, and booted on. When I press the power button, nothing happens. It’s literally like pressing the button in an empty case. No fan spinning, no lights, nothing. I reattached the front panel cable for Power SW, and tried it in multiple orientations as well, all to no avail.
The computer is plugged into a working outlet, the PSU is turned on, the 24-pin and the 4-pin power connectors are correctly plugged in to the motherboard, as well as the POWER SW connector, but when I press the button nothing happens.
What can I do to get my computer to boot? Thanks in advance!

Did you try turning it off and on again?
Well, guess what? I was able to attach the RESET SW cable to where the POWER SW would usually go, and now I can power on the PC with the Reset button, which is 100% fine by me. I will let you all know how the computer goes, and if I'm able to install OS, and use the computer as normal.
I've had to do that before, and it works fine, just a different button haha. Glad you got it to work

THANK YOU KILLERTOAD! I shorted it with the screwdriver, and it booted to BIOS, but now I need a reliable way to turn it on without doing that every time, and I don't want to attempt to install my OS without having a proper solution.
Alright, awesome well that means that it's the button or the power switch cord, which depending on the case, you can get it replaced. I can't think of a quick way to get around it off the top of my head, but I'm sure there is a way. I bet there is a power switch adapter online that allows you to turn it on without the cases power button.
To test and see if the motherboard is dead, unplug the power switch connector, and use a screw driver and touch in between the pins, and if it doesn't power on, then send the motherboard back (assuming your psu and all is plugged in right, see if you can borrow another psu if the motherboard trick doesn't work)
(I know it says USB, but I can't find a picture online, so you get the idea, but in between the pins. The screwdriver shorts out the connector and causes the PC to start, we have to do that in our computer shop 1/4 of the time, because the switch or button is broke)

I do have a suspicion the motherboard is still the issue. I got it back yesterday, but Biostar only said they replaced a part, not a whole new board. I think I'm going to try breadboarding to narrow it down. The PSU did pass the paperclip test, which I know isn't 100% whether or not it works, but it should give some indication.

Based on your description it's likely either a bad power supply or a bad mainboard.
Have you connected you processor and harddrives to the PSU. Otherwise the processor won't start and make anything happen. And if the harddrive with your OS doesn't start you won't be able to start windows. But then again, if these was the problems, the PSU would start anyway without nothing more happening. So the problem has to be with the PSU. Are you sure it's working? The problem may be as simple as that. I think if it's not attached to a motherboard it'll start if you just plug it in a wall socket. Try that. Revome it from your motherboard and insert it in a wall socket you know is working. And if it's not working you should probably get a new one
The battery in the motherboard may be dead, try replacing it.
The battery in the motherboard would produce a checksum error, the PC would still start I believe.
Nope the pc would not start because without the battery i believe the bios would not open and run
Computers will boot even without that battery. All it does is maintain things like the computer's clock.
Make sure the 24pin connector is all the way in. When I first built my computer I was too scared to press the motherboard too hard, so I didn't insert the 24pin hard enough resulting in nothing happening at all when trying to turn on.
Thats...weird. Double check each cable, mine had the same problem yesterday but it was just the matter of a cable not in securely enough.

If you care so much and want the job done fairly quickly, just call somebody out or get spare parts. I mean if you have the money for all of this surely you can just hire some tech guru
Does the PSU have a power switch on the back? Do software power buttons work (eg, windows shutdown)? Have you tried shorting the motherboard power headers? Be careful if you do that.
Yes PSU has a power switch. I've tried it both ways, and it does not work. I cannot try a virtual power button, because the computer does not boot. And yes, I just tried shorting the power headers with a screw driver, and there were no signs of life.
Does your case or mobo have a speaker on it? Is it beeping?
