Which do you like better, Windows 7, or Windows 8? I personally like windows 7 better. For a lot of reasons, one of which, "THERE IS NO START BUTTON ON WINDOWS 8!"

If you get Windows 8 then there is the opportunity to get Windows 8.1, which adds the start button. What I like about Windows 8.1 is that you can log in with your Microsoft account!

Keep calm and carry on!

naturally, humans don't like change, so of course they're going to hate Windows 8 (even though most of the people here don't have / or haven't used windows 8)

Personally, I love Windows 8. I prefer Mac OSX for web browsing though as it's more intuitive (coming from someone who uses BOTH WIndows 8 and Mac OSX Lion).

Windows 8(I own one)boots up faster than my windows 7 laptops (I own two ) and it's easier to use with no problems unlike my Windows 7 laptops they are currently having wifi and trackpad problems.

Windows 8. I haven't upgraded to Windows 8.1 yet, but 8 is better, I think.

You should update to 8.1
Few more changes and more security xD

I like Windows 8. Not really a huge step up from Windows 7, but still pretty nice. Start menu I must say is handle. Saves me 3 seconds trying to find google chrome icon and open it.

Personally I prefer Windows 8, not only because of the added stability I've noticed, but faster speed and lower ram consumption, I have an old PC from 2004 and it runs great with windows 8, so I'm happy with it

And I like Windows 8, quite a bit. It's easier to get around to find programs.
For example:

Wait, what?

Ok, first thing I think when I see your screenshot is this:

Ok, first off, why are the categories so specific if they're going to be incorrect? Like, the entire "video editing" category only has 1 video editor in it.

If it was more generalized, like "video" and "graphics", it'd be fine. I don't see why a "programming" category is even needed when it'd be perfectly fine to add that stuff into the "development software" category.

And yeah, those tiles are HUGE if you think about it in comparison to a start menu (especially since that was condensed). If you're on a tablet with not much software? Fine. But if you've got TONS of software, are you going to be flipping through pages and pages (or endlessly scrolling) to find what you want?

Straight from one of the UX designers at Microsoft:

For me it comes down to "this isn't my workflow" and I don't want what they're selling, and I also don't like the lazy flat tile interface. No, it's not minimalist, it's not "new" or "modern" (apart from the name), it's just a fad. yes, overuse of gradients looks "old", but that doesn't mean that anything with some visual depth is stuck in the past and flat squares are "revolutionary contemporary design".

Also to people who say they added the start menu button back: no, they added a start SCREEN button, which basically switches you back to the "modern" interface.

thats where your wrong microsoft is not forcing people using touch screens and they added back in the start button in windows 8.1

No, that's a "return to modern" button....

This is due to the user's categories, the categories on the start screen are user-made, so you could type a category named Gobeldygook, and throw any app you want in it, like so:

organization is put into the hands of the users, mainly due to the fact windows is backwards compatible, older apps would always be non categorized because there'd be no way for windows to know what category it is, especially for older unknown apps.

also I use windows 8 for content creation all the time, it's part of my job, which includes using 3DS max, Adobe Audition and Photoshop my entire day, the usage is no different from older windows.

To find an app you need, press the windows logo key, type the name and press enter, BAM it's up! Even though Windows 8 has a split personality, somehow it's faster for me. but then, that's my personal view on it.

Windows 7 and 8 aren't all that different except that Windows 8 has faster boot times and better security. The missing start button really bothered me at first, but using the search function Win8 includes achieves the same thing as the bottom left start button. Also, learning to use Win + R to run programs you frequent or open your control panel saves you time. Gaming on Windows 7 and 8 are essentially the same. I've had only a few compatibility issues with older games like Fallout 3, but those can be easily fixed with a patch, quick Google search, and running those programs in compatibility mode for an older Windows OS.

Initially I really disliked Windows 8, but that was mostly because I didn't want to take the time to learn how to use it properly since it, at least on the surface, looked so different from previous versions of Windows. It's really not very confusing and I'm very happy with it now that I've used it for a while. Also, for those of you that don't like the tiles when you boot, just move your desktop tile to the top left corner and when you log in, you just hit enter and go straight to your desktop. You don't have to use them at all to operate this OS.

If you're gaming: Windows 7.
If you're using a tablet: Windows 8.
Because for some reason Microsoft thinks that removing the start button and forcing a touch-screen friendly interface is exactly what desktop computers need.

To me: Windows 8.1, however it's a matter of opinion. Neither can be proven "better". But honestly, they didn't do much in Windows 8. They improved the interface, which I love. I never used the start menu anyway, so it doesn't affect me, even if it did, doesn't matter. It's a tiny difference, and can be brought back with free programs.

i would choose windows 8.1 and windows 7 as my best 2 operating systems... but i really hate windows 8 cuz searching for files is really hard on it.. i know how to but i just hate to do it . on windows 8.1 u can access your files by clicking the arrow on the bottom left corner on the start menu...and u can get the start button on windows 8 using start8 but i like windows 8.1 more...but heres my results :

Windows 8 = A Piece Of Crap

Windows 7 = Best Operating System

Windows 8.1 = Cool Operating System Great for tablets , Good For Computers .

Mac OS X = Hard To Use ... But It Has Great Apps like : Pixelmator , iPhoto , iMovie , Photo Booth ... etc. , Also Its What Im Using ATM ...

OK.. i know that i added Mac OS X but who cares??? I Hope u Enjoy My paragraph lol xD

Everyone who prefers 8 over 7 is one of three things:

1: Clueless

2: Age fifteen or under

3: Doesn't understand computers and/or do anything with them for either work or some sort of programming

I have windows8 64bit and i have no issues yet with anything. I have had it for 3 months almost now and have not had a single problem. Yeah, it does get some getting used to... but now that i am familiar with it is totally fine. If i had to choose i like them equally the same. I do like the start key in windows7, but i can live without it.
