so, i"d suggest choosing sounds that are common in lots of languages, so it"s easy to pronounce for anyone trying to read it out
in a similar fashion, i"d suggest having a balance between vovels and consonants, as comical as a purely vovel language may sound
with that in mind i"ll start by going through the vovel options


i (as in gift) exists in romanic languages (italian, spanish,... even french), german and most slavic languages, in russian it is written и, but is the same thing. in english it can also be represented by e (as in me)
o (as in got) exists in all of the above, written as o. the other o sound in english (oh) is an oddity of english, not even existing in all its dialects, so i"d avoid it
a (as in garden) exists in all of the above, written as a. in english it may also be represented by u (as in cut)
e (as in get) all of the above, written as э in russian, but same thing
u exists in all of the above, in russian written as у, in english it mostly exists as oo (as in good)

so there is a variety to choose from already, but if you want to add in something less common:
ö exists in german, in english as u (turn) and french as eu (bleu). other languages lack it
ü exists in german and turkish, other languages lack it
ä similar to e, so it is mostly redundant. exists in german. in english you can pronounce a in some words like it (first a in language)
ы a hard i existing in russian. other languages lack it
au a and u melted into one, exists in german and some english words (such as count), other languages lack it, pronounce the letters separately
oa o and a melted into one, exists in french (trois)

now it"s up to you to choose which vowel sounds you want and how to write them

You should base it off of Old English, Latin, Norse and Germanic languages.

despite my arguments against centrally planned languages (found earlier in this thread), as this is a hobbyist project anyways which is something i did not argue against, i would like to suggest something that could potentially make the language interesting, seeing how it would overcome that limitation:

a limited set of sounds. make it a purely phonetic language with each letter having one, and only one sound, and each sound having just one letter
then limit the language to, let"s say 10 letters/sounds

This isn't how language works, you don't just come up with a substitute for each word. You have to define the parts of speech, pronunciation, and so on. Then the main skeleton for the language which will be the base for different words. Then prefixes/suffixes, articles, etc. It's more than just making a random word for each pre-existing one.

There is actually some languages, that were designed by one man to make communication between other country people easy, but as your idea i don't think it will work nicely.

languages are a way for people to understand each other, so a successful language is one formed through the communication of individuals adapting to their needs
trying to centrally plan the direction an existing language takes inevitably is a waste of effort, as the language people use just keeps adapting to what is useful for the conversations the individuals speaking it have
this also explains why entirely centrally planned languages, such as esperanto, are at best thought exercises for hobbyists
they not only lack the network effect of people understanding it that makes languages useful, but also, no matter how much more efficient their creators may consider them, are not as well adapted to the communications needs of millions of people as languages developed in use by those millions of people

If you're going to establish a language, I suggest going about it in a different way. If you simply assign words to their English counter-parts, you won't get very far. Instead, try taking a look at speaking Elvish as laid out by Tolkien and from there, think about how you could go about this. Often languages work on a building block system for it's words, with certain parts having roots to other words.

Try thinking about the word "feel".
There are all sorts of forms that word can take. For example:
felt
feeling
feelings

So, like I said, try thinking about establishing your rules for creating words, take a look at other language structures and from there, begin building. Keeping in mind, that your sentences may not follow the same rules as English does and your language will need an altered set of rules for grammar.

Sorry about being lengthy and possibly making things difficult, but I've done what you're doing...and I didn't progress very far with it.
