Hello everyone. All of us have been to school in some point of our lives. I have noticed that there are many issues with how my past middle school was run, and am wondering if other schools are run the same, before I step up for the students of the nation. I plan to make another youtube channel discussing these issues so that they can be fixed. I will now list the issues my middle school had.
1: Lunch ladies didn't wear hair nets and hair got in our food.
2: "Healthy" Lunch food had less sugar but "No reduction in callories" (That was literaly written in small letters on our food containers)
3: Group punishment for individual issues (One day I was home sick and there was 4 fights. I got punished with the group because the innocent was in the same grade as the fighters and watched the fight)
4: Most punishments result in no talking. (We have the right to speak, and speaking improves intelligence, so why take that away)
5: Most punishments were from "Talking too loud" (My grade had 400 students in 1 lunch room There was no way to keep us silent)
6: The food in the lines are bad, but the school decides to break the food health laws and sell food as concessions to raise money for the school, thus making it so the rich kids who want to buy pizza for $1:50 a slice on a 5 dollar 10 slice pizza get as much food as they want, while the rest of the kids starve.

My temp-school in Chile, South-America had no problems. Don't say "America" when talking about USA. That is offending to us South-Americans, especially when you call Obama the "President of America" when he is not even president of half of it.
Well, here in Norway at last, school is much better. Even though our rule system is against free speech, like it is all over the world. Seriously, can't we say our opinion? That is a damn human right. Get that into your head, teachers. And take food from home, as the average jail lunch is more healthy than the average school lunch.
But I do agree, schools all over the world, not just in the US need improvements. Except South-American. Teachers gets happy when we argue with them about a topic relevant to school. I love outargumenting my teachers when our topic is computers .-.

School as we know it today was actually started during the Protestant Reformation, to teach kids the Bible, and to respect authority. Not the Industrial Revolution.

I don't want to be misunderstood. I understand schooling has been around for centuries, and religious groups particularly have been teaching in a formal school setting for a very long time, but my statement was on the government funded public school system being derived from the Industrial Revolution, it was this era that standardized education and made it easily available to the public, albeit with blatant flaws. That is what i meant by my statements. It is this system that warranted this thread's discussion, and thus i formulated my opinions based on what i've researched.

I go to a "poor school." We have gang violence evident in our school, but they leave you alone unless you talk bad to them. The only issue we have at our school is our books
our books are broken down and gross. However our school district offers free college tuition if you graduate from the district under certain requirements. I mean , I do school. Just not in school. >.>
Also, just cause I homeschool, does not mean I'm a rich snob, that's a stereotype.

I don't know about you, but just about everybody at all the schools I have been to at this school district have been over the top friendly. There were maybe one or two particularly mean individuals, probably because they have switched from a more lenient school when it comes to bullying and such.
I have also noticed that depending where you live, people behave differently. For example, people in the state of Washington are more open, accepting, and social than people in Arizona. That's just something I have observed because I have moved many times throughout my life.
But then again, some schools depending on administration (the people in the office), discipline is much different. I went to a school where there were two types of papers that could be filled out if you were doing something bad. There were behavior logs and office referrals. Behavior logs were just something the teacher would fill out with your name and what you were doing wrong, and you would have to sign it and have your parents sign it. Essentially a detention slip. Office referrals were if you did something really bad, or the teacher was stupid and thinks it is okay to hand them out left and right. Referrals got you in the principals office. If you got 7 referrals, you got ISS (In school suspension) for a day. That consists of sitting in a room in the office all day, doing absolutely nothing.
This school district has a system called the "PRIDE Program". PRIDE stands for Personal Responsibility in Daily Efforts. In your agenda are stamp sheets.
If you come prepared to class (if you have all your supplies for the class, did not arrive late, and have your due homework), you get a yes stamp. If not, you get a "NO" stamp. Then the next day you have to stay after school for an hour. In that hour you cannot talk. You are only allowed to work on things. If the teacher that is supervising the after school thing thinks you did not use the time wisely, you have to do it again.

The green letter "P" is a pride I never served. For some reason I have gotten away with skipping it, the teachers don't seem to notice it. This week I have been absent because I have gotten surgery and I had to be present for my little brother's cardiology appointment.
If you receive multiple "NO stamps" in a day, you don't have to serve a "PRIDE" (the name of the staying after school thing) per stamp, you only have to serve one.
After you're done serving your pride after school, there is no transportation so you have to walk home. Note: The school is in Arizona, and summer days can top 110 degrees F (43C) and I have to walk four miles home.

Now i agree with the people that say the punishments are unjust. For example i didnt buy lunch becuase of my soy problem (also the school doesnt deserve the money becuase the computers cant do anything, they dont clean it so i have like 50 asthma attacks a day, the teachers cuss students out for sneezing, they get on to students for writing in a text book but that writing was there for a million years.) and I WAS SUSPENDED FOR 5 FREAKING DAYS WHAT THE HECK WHY WOULD U DO THAT YOU KNOW I CANT EAT THAT STUFF WITHOUT VOMITING 100 TIMES?!?!?!?!?! I MEAN REALLY! Now a larger problem with the punishments is the fact the GROUP pays for what 1 KID DID I MEAN IT WAS JUST THAT KID NOT EVERYONE!

I am a product of the public school system in the US, and i have done a lot of research into teaching philosophies in this country and comparing them worldwide. Teaching in general in the United States is derived from the Industrial Revolution in the 1800s when there was a need for a basic education of the workforce to cope with the changing of how people made a living. No longer were they just working on family owned farms, they were leaving the country and dwelling in dense urban spaces, they were manufacturing goods, operating complicated machinery, and it required something more. As a reflection of the era, education became a massed produced product, those who were learning were thought of as mere products. But this mentality of education comes at a cost: To teach in such a way, relying on productivity, relies on creating a level of conformity. Everyone is treated the same, they are given the same material, but at a loss of their own personal identity and creativity. Conformity brings about a suppression of rights, students are nothing more than livestock for self vindication of the school itself and of the entire education system. And while this worked to some degree in a society needing this basic education, in my research i noticed a clear lacking in it as America is entering a new age in the work force. We are beyond the simple manufacturing culture that this system was derived from. Creativity and personal identity have become critical in the work force as we continue to fully immerse ourselves in this technologically based, service oriented economy. Conformity inhibits creativity, it quells individuality, and it stunts the growth of the youth because it fails to adapt to a new circumstance. While you may address some of the minor flaws in our education system, such as the general lack of regard or awareness of the faculty in handling certain situations, there needs to be more awareness of the incompetence that has wholly developed in America's education as it fails to adapt, evolve, and embrace a changing intellectual demographic. Wrongful punishment, seemingly unjust suspension, and inadequate food and services are merely a byproduct of the problem as a whole that this country faces.

I fought for my creativity to make my High school a better place in the minds of that. Sherwood High School. One of the highest ranking schools in Oregon, and... it has Art classes. and AP Art classes
Thank you, though when i get into a rant like this, i tend to forget about formatting. My high school, though no where near even being considered in ranking, also offered various art classes, including AP studio art. But even that class, given the nature of the AP structure for that class specifically, suffered from a need of production rather than actually investing the needed time for proper creativity. My work became nothing more than a chore, a series of 22 pieces of work i had to do to pass, adhering to the same scale and standards that plagues every other subject, and becomes nothing more than a colorful example of conformity, rather than a true expression of creativity, as i had hoped it would have been. Maybe this was just my experience, though.
One problem and i think i speak for all school kids who eat lunches is that this 'healthy' stuff has caused more problems than what its worth. I want to know who's idea it was to do this to us kids digestive systems (some kids like me cant eat that stuff and we have to or we will get suspended for 5 days). So i ask you how is a digestive-destroying soy based-food that tasted like crap and causes reactions like vomiting supposed to be healthy? answer this!

Our technology classes are filled to the brim with what ever you wanna do. If your computer interest isn't there, well hell... make the class yourself. I taught Web Design and Game design, both which are now classes at my school.

I GO to OREGON to i live in molalla
I saw this a few days ago. I hate the Oregon School system. Sick one day, Four of my teachers failed me. Plus North Clackamas School district wastes all their money on "Technology" when really they just buy tons of Apple products (They can be saving a bunch of money with Cheap PCs) which they don't even use most of the time.
In 7th grade, I wrote a paper for the district that get us cheap computers that work, and apple iPads. We now have 300+ iPads, 32 Chromebooks, 32 Chrome computer thingys that are small... lol. and 192 Computers on our network. My father works for HP so we struck a deal for teacher laptops as well.

Sounds like a crappy school if you ask me. It also sounds like they put more time into athletics rather than education. That's also why lots of parents don't want hw, because their kids have sports. This generation, if it wants to stay a generation, relies on the people who actually do decent in school otherwise adults won't get to retire.
Oh dang there's 6 elementary schools in town and in one there's a Wii, you're allowed to bring devices, and if you curse nothing happens

What is being taught is either too hard or insufficient, and will not matter in the next 10 years of our lives (to put food on a table I don't need to memorize 60 digits of Pi). Kids who have mental diseases are usually treated like animals/bullied constantly/are treated unfairly and do not learn the same things others do even if they are not in a special class. Kids do not get in trouble for having drugs. Kids are lied to throughout the day by staff. Staff are allowed to harass children (unless it's infront of the camera!). Cameras are not in classrooms. iPad damage from the person who had it before you means you pay $900 to get it fixed (that's how much I paid)! The south learns less than the north does. Left and Right are never taught. Most grammar is not taught and is expected to already be known.

i agree with everything but one thing. staff harrasing kids. in my school teachers arent allowed to punch or hit kids. still they do it, for example forgot to do my homework? hehehe next thing you see is him hitting you as hard as he can with a stick ( i swear to god this is true) maybe where you live teachers are nice and polite. but where i live they are the complete oppisite (yes i know my grammar sucks)

The stuff about the bad school lunch makes me think of this little thing my sister made as a joke since I was running for Student Council Historian.
Basically, it had three of the students (including me) running for Historian, and she visualized what they would do as they weren't the nicest people, as in they should go to Hell.
Cadence: "You can all eat crap for breakfast! I don't really care!"
Laundry (Truly Landry): "I hate you all! Screw you!"
Gavin (Me): "You can have a nutritious and delicious breakfast."

There's black mold covering the roof of my Math class portable near the AC. My Language Arts TV is so old, it's literally from 1969, and it is in black and white and barely works. Some teachers have no projectors/smart boards. Some teachers wear things kids are not allowed to wear (WHAT EVEN FOR?). The lunch food served is a war to keep down. You can get in trouble for being out for 10 days, even if you catch Mono. People don't get in trouble for stealing/breaking phones or other electronic devices 'BECAUSE WE'RE NOT IN CHARJ U SHUDENT HAV BRENG IT'. Teachers constantly say "HEY YA'LL!". Teachers swear. Teachers play inappropriate songs and videos during class. Kids get in trouble for not knowing something that they were out for. Kids get in trouble for coming without a doctors' note. Kids get in trouble for going to the bathroom too often. Kids get in trouble for not sitting criss-cross apple-sauce on the floor. What is being taught is either too hard or insufficient, and will not matter in the next 10 years of our lives (to put food on a table I don't need to memorize 60 digits of Pi). Kids get in trouble for talking a lot, even if they have issues like Tourettes and ADHD. Kids who have mental diseases are usually treated like animals/bullied constantly/are treated unfairly and do not learn the same things others do even if they are not in a special class. Kids do not get in trouble for having drugs. Kids are lied to throughout the day by staff. Staff are allowed to harass children (unless it's infront of the camera!). Cameras are not in classrooms. iPad damage from the person who had it before you means you pay $900 to get it fixed (that's how much I paid)! The south learns less than the north does. Left and Right are never taught. Most grammar is not taught and is expected to already be known.

First of all, I am in a British school but things are still bad. I got suspended for fighting when I was sitting on the bench and some one grabbed me from behind on to the floor and started trying to hit me. Obviously I had to defend my self from this guy (who had previously been arrested) so I thought my way back up and did what I had to do. THAT was when the school suspended ME!
I only did what I had to do but apparently the school did not see it that way and suspended me just because I put some druggie on the ground.
Haha, he still got what he deserved.

That's the reason why so many Music and Arts programs are shutting down everywhere; that's also the reason in some schools you can't take text books home. (Apparently, Athletics > Education)
Athletics is not valued higher than academics. Publicity is. Publicity creates cashflow.

The media makes it worst than it sounds. They also do stuff like jail a good and friendly (also smart) teen who made a pot brownie for himself. He's in jail for the rest of his life for non-violent drugs.

cannabis is only bad for you if ingested in the form of smoking, the most common way of getting high off of it. when smoked, lung cancer is a high risk, as it is with tobacco. but ingesting cannabis in other forms has very little, if none, of a health risk.
also, responding to op, my band is so underfunded our band teacher begged us to raise money for the band, and the only instruments they provide are euphoniums/tubas and percussion, both of which are VERY worn down.

I got angry with my school once and I torched/grafiti'd the outdoor bathroom as retaliation. It was in the news paper the next morning
