Hello everyone. All of us have been to school in some point of our lives. I have noticed that there are many issues with how my past middle school was run, and am wondering if other schools are run the same, before I step up for the students of the nation. I plan to make another youtube channel discussing these issues so that they can be fixed. I will now list the issues my middle school had.
1: Lunch ladies didn't wear hair nets and hair got in our food.
2: "Healthy" Lunch food had less sugar but "No reduction in callories" (That was literaly written in small letters on our food containers)
3: Group punishment for individual issues (One day I was home sick and there was 4 fights. I got punished with the group because the innocent was in the same grade as the fighters and watched the fight)
4: Most punishments result in no talking. (We have the right to speak, and speaking improves intelligence, so why take that away)
5: Most punishments were from "Talking too loud" (My grade had 400 students in 1 lunch room There was no way to keep us silent)
6: The food in the lines are bad, but the school decides to break the food health laws and sell food as concessions to raise money for the school, thus making it so the rich kids who want to buy pizza for $1:50 a slice on a 5 dollar 10 slice pizza get as much food as they want, while the rest of the kids starve.
7: Suspensions for stupid reasons (I got suspended because I threw a rubber band and it hit someone) (My friend was suspended for "fightning" because his friend was tapping him, and he didn't raise his arm)

I see less and less money going to academics and more and more money going to athletics.
All of the problems you listed are pretty small scale. They certainly are problems, but there are bigger issues at play.
Many school districts are under funded (often big city districts) which leads to a multitude of problems in itself. Every year many schools are closed down and merged with other schools forming bigger and bigger schools and they tend not to hire additional staff; many teachers are laid off. As the schools grow and district budgets shrink, the schools can no longer serve their students properly -and alas, masses of under-educated citizens.

Sorta off topic, but i heard recently that Germany has free rides to college for Americans now. So just learn German fluently and education would be much more beneficial. If German isn't your thing, then they are offering international college courses as well. Of course, this doesn't fix America though...

Lol? Alcohol is much worst, only Meth makes people more violent, people in other countries do just fine on crack and pot, etc. Also, pot is linked to fighting cancers, and the current way of making money, or I mean fighting cancer is using radiation (which causes most cancer and helps it grow) to kill it or chemotherapy which puts dangerous chemicals. They also screw up your immune system. And, would you rather smoke Cannabis (Weed/Pot), or Tobacco?
The media makes it worst than it sounds. They also do stuff like jail a good and friendly (also smart) teen who made a pot brownie for himself. He's in jail for the rest of his life for non-violent drugs.
To go back around with this, I'd like you to read my piracy post in this part of the forum. It's a little off topic here but it will explain the patent thing. I was just saying that Thomas Edison was taught science and very little of anything else.

School funding isn't going down, well, it is, but most of the moneys schools get, they're just funnelling it into Athletics. That's the reason why so many Music and Arts programs are shutting down everywhere; that's also the reason in some schools you can't take text books home. (Apparently, Athletics > Education)
It's sad how people think athletics is everything. I hear football, volleyball, and all sports on the announcements in the morning. But you never hear anything about how great the band did at their competition, or how the chior never missed a note at their concert, or how the math team is on a winning streak.
I wish that people who were in extracurricular activities (which, in a way, is sorta like a team) would get even a smidge of respect that people who are in athletics were.

Well, I can't say I've had real problems myself.. I guess I've lived in more mobile middle class suburbs so most schools are highly rated and cared for. But overall, America's schools have been taking a massive loss of funding. I see many kids living a few blocks from me going to private schools due to the public schools being unaccredited, which should not happen.

I've never understood the whole "have lunch provided" thing. From Aus here, and when I went to school, you either brought something with you for lunch, or paid $4 for a hotdog from the tuckshop / canteen whatever it is.
I haven't heard anything about a right to speak. If you're at school, and they ask you to be quiet, they expect you to do so, and you're required to do so if you don't want the consequences.

This is always an option, but most of the meals I eat at home are usually made from scratch, and cooked. I hate reheating things up, that's something I haven't gotten used to yet.
Mostly discipline is not strict enough in my school. There is a "no tolerance" policy in our handbook, but it seems the same kids can get out of school suspension multiple times and still make it the whole school year.

5 chicken nuggets. Does anyone think that, some terrible sweet potato fries, and a small apple is a whole lunch? I myself weigh 145 pounds (~65kg) and I'm also 6'5 (195cm.) I can easily eat a half pound burger for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Some ~500 calories is nothing to me for a lunch. I believe food is being limited at schools so they are not to blame for America's obesity.
I could add a whole lot more here, but I'm going to do something a little more productive.

But anyways, yes! I fully agree with everyone here in the sense that there are a huge amount of problems with public schools (as miniscule and redundant as they may be.) For example, in my school, we have teachers that, rather than teach (as you would expect from a TEACHer,) they stay behind their desk all day playing on their phones or tablets or whatever do-dads they may have happended to bring with them on that particular day. Then, after they give us a test over something they never taught, they complain about us being lazy and not doing our work (I know, right!?).
On a side note, the lunch ladies at my school do not wear hair nets either. Due to this rather inconvient annoyance, I am left to find hair in my food on a regular basis. (Although this is not quite a frequent occurence as it has been in the past.) I forget who was talking about the servers selling extra food, but anyways, this also occurs at my school. My school that I was in last year sold us ham baguettes that only had ham around the outside so it looks like they had a slice of ham inside.
But before I left the offsted decided that the school was far below standards and was turned into an Oasis academy.

My school has a lack of discipline, for example, a boy hits and kicks me and another student for days on end and it's determined an official case of bugging! Seriously? And that was once I had gone to the principal!
I am in band and almost all the school funds are going into sports. We haven't had new band materials in about 10 - 15 years. Half of the percussion instruments are broken and the stands are carp. Whats bad is that our school district has one of the best music programs in our state, like come on!

Some things to point out:
1. Its district policy for the cafeteria people to wear hair nets, even if they are serving it,
2. I dont care if the food is healthy, because of Michelle Obama our school has to waste money, its law for students to take a fruit and most of the time, its thrown away, we are getting a lot less food, My school is a Title A, or is it 1, school, means its a poor school, but still out performs schools with more money, because we are Title A, the Federal Government is giving the school money to pay for Students Lunch, so lunch is free to all students, and because they have less money to work with than if students payed for lunch, students now are now getting less. And fundraisers are not allowed, which I think is stupid.

4. People love to talk, when you get in trouble and you get a punishment, you usually do things you hate, you get taken away things that you love, if its effective by making it silent, then I see no reason not to take talking away from punishments, I prefer it quiet anyway.
5. I can see if it is a problem in the Classroom, you should only talk when you are allowed to and use inside voices, and be respectful to the teacher, in the cafeteria, if people are yelling thats a problem, but if they are not, talk to the school administration.
6. I see no reason why you would take school fundraising away! You want that pizza, GO MOW A YARD, DO SOMETHING TO GET MONEY, ITS NOT HARD!!! Its life, LIFE IS NOT FAIR, its the same in life, you go and have a nice dinner with your family, and people without money starve! Its the same, you are not forced to, they are willing to give their money for something that they want, thats why business' strive, they have people who will buy their products! Besides, its more money for the school, schools are ALWAYS needing the extra money!
7. Suspensions, Hitting someone with a rubber band, bit extreme, but if its against the rules to do so, there should be punishment. In all schools, except for the High School I go to, there is a No Touch Policy, and they have a zero tolerance about it, they do allow high fives, and stuff like that, but tapping, its a bit extreme, unless it did result in a fight
My take: At the school I go to, money is an issue, but, the teachers at my school go the extra mile, which I am VERY lucky for, the teachers will do more than what they are supposed to, they will tell you that the money is nice, but, they are going to do their jobs, and do them well, and try to get things done without the extra money. I go to one of the best schools in the state, Idaho, even for being one of the worst states for education, we out perform a lot of schools in the state. I am also lucky, more money in my school gos to Academics, then performing arts, then sports.
The biggest issue is that schools dont have any money, I bet you if people in congress put more money into the education system, we wont have all of the issues that we have today!
I'm lucky and able to go to private school right now, but I did have to go to public school about 5 years ago. It was bad as you described it. They assumed we did not know our rights as Americans. But they underestimated me. With the group punishments thing, they did force us all to be silent but I pointed out amendment 1 and the teacher shut up with their stupid punishments for the rest of the year. Nonetheless they hated me for the remainder of that year.

Are they putting pieces of religion just in history lessons? Because that was like the biggest thing back then it caused so many wars.
I go to a high school, but If I ever dropped out (which I never will), I could learn everything I need to know from the Internet or from my personal library of books.
Like right now, I bought a Survival book I'm reading between classes. While they're getting us to do something we most likely will never use, eg., balancing neutralization reactions (unless you're a chemist). I know bases neutralize acids, and If I ever find myself in such a situation, I'd find a base and dump it on the acid.
So while I'm learning random things in School I'm also learning how to hunt, set traps, build shelter, etc., all the things they don't teach you that might be incredibly valuable some day.
Yeah, I go to a Catholic High School, and I don't like how they try and integrate Religon. I have to take "Religon Class" all 4 years which I think is ridiculous. Besides, all you do in that class is read, watch movies, and do art anyway. I'd rather be able to take something I enjoy more like History or Cooking. (History and Religion are not integrated unless they're actually talking about religious struggles in history, eg., WW2)

When fights are happening IN THE SCHOOL, standing around and watching isn't going to help anything. If it happens, grab a teacher or something ASAP. I don't see why any actual teacher would just shrug that off.

They're trying to TEACH you something which is important to know for an upcoming test. Are there announcements on or you're at an assembly? DON'T TALK DURING THAT EITHER. Announcements are there so you know when something is or what's going on. For instance, SAT/ACT signups, club signups, when dance tickets are being sold, when athletic games are going to be, when concerts are going to be, etc.
When there's an assembly, even if YOU DON'T CARE OR DISAGREE WITH WHAT THE PERSON HAS TO SAY, you still need to hear their piece as it's common courtesy.
In my school there's roughly 900 students total, and divided between three lunches, averagely there'd be 300 kids in each one. I will agree, our lunch periods are extremely loud. At the exact same time however you're not supposed to be yelling or screaming at the top of your lungs at the exact same time.
I'm not sure what school you're going to, but the local schools around where I live give free lunches to whoever is of that financial status, and even with that, lunches at the school are, what, 10 cents each? They're not very much at all. Like I said before about the sugar content, you're not forced to eat the lunch there either.
I don't mean to be the devil's advocate, but your suspension sounds pretty justified, given it were an in-school suspension. As for your friend's, it sounds rather biased as there isn't any support to either side. What if he actually retaliated and hit the kid?
Overall many of your arguments sound awfully self-righteous for things that you yourself have done and could have been avoided.
This being said this is pretty much out of my own opinion and probably sound just as head-up-my-butt. I know for a fact that I sound pretty much like some teacher's pet, and will admit that I have in fact been one. With this, however, I'm not going to aimlessly follow one's opinion and would rather prefer to form my own.

I would also like to note that the kids who play sports rarely get in trouble, no matter what they do. It's like they have some kind of immunity to the rules simply because of the athletics they participate in.

I have noticed that there are many issues with how my past middle school was run, and am wondering if other schools are run the same, before I step up for the students of the nation. I plan to make another youtube channel discussing these issues so that they can be fixed. I will now list the issues my middle school had.
1: Lunch ladies didn't wear hair nets and hair got in our food.
2: "Healthy" Lunch food had less sugar but "No reduction in callories" (That was literaly written in small letters on our food containers)
3: Group punishment for individual issues (One day I was home sick and there was 4 fights. I got punished with the group because the innocent was in the same grade as the fighters and watched the fight)
4: Most punishments result in no talking. (We have the right to speak, and speaking improves intelligence, so why take that away)
5: Most punishments were from "Talking too loud" (My grade had 400 students in 1 lunch room There was no way to keep us silent)
6: The food in the lines are bad, but the school decides to break the food health laws and sell food as concessions to raise money for the school, thus making it so the rich kids who want to buy pizza for $1:50 a slice on a 5 dollar 10 slice pizza get as much food as they want, while the rest of the kids starve.
7: Suspensions for stupid reasons (I got suspended because I threw a rubber band and it hit someone) (My friend was suspended for "fightning" because his friend was tapping him, and he didn't raise his arm)

1: Submit proof of unsanitary conditions (hair in your food) along with proof that your lunch lady isn't wearing a hair net to your principal/school board. This isn't acceptable behavior for school lunch workers.
2. Calories aren't bad for you. You need them for your body to create energy from food. You aren't going to eat your daily calorie limit in one sitting at a lunch table at school unless you're eating two giant greasy cheeseburgers, which could easily net you 2k calories in a single sitting.
3. This is something you should discuss with your parents and then your principal. Punishing an entire grade for fights you weren't involved in doesn't sound right. This is said assuming you mean you were suspended or something similar. If a school dance was cancelled because of fight outbreaks, then this is a common practice across a lot of schools and I don't completely disagree with it.
4. No, you don't have the right to speak if a teacher or other authority figure asks you not to. Not unless you're prepared to face any consequence they lay out for disregarding their instruction.
5. "Silence" in the lunch room is impossible and unreasonable, but there is such a thing as being too loud. This is completely reasonable, considering a lot of schools have 2 lunch periods to accommodate all grades. Distracting students that aren't at lunch and trying to work or disturbing residents in nearby housing isn't ok and is probably the reason for being punished for the lunchroom being "too loud".
6. Bad as in gross or bad as in rotten? Assuming you mean gross, lunches have to be sold at a higher price than wholesale so the school can cover costs and fund field trips, school supplies, janitorial supplies, salaries, etc... Paying $1.50 for a piece of pizza isn't bad at all and if the price is too higher, there's likely a program available to you to buy lunch at a reduced cost. Every school I attended had one.
7. Technically you assaulted someone with the rubber band. You could have hit someone in the eye (sounds cliche, I know, but it does happen). It's a safety hazard and I agree with the punishment. I can't overstate how annoying/distracting it was for me to get hit with people's crud they were throwing around the classroom. Touching someone who doesn't want to be touched isn't acceptable either, assuming that's what you meant. If not, please clarify.

I used to go to a Baptist private school, but then I left and went to public school in order to prepare for high school. I have to say, I miss wearing uniforms and taking harder subjects, but at least I don't have to go to church every Thursday anymore :/
I've seen some people talk about how school doesn't enforce discipline enough. The truth is, while making the punishments more severe might seem to be the answer, the real answer is to remove the punishments. They aren't ever doing anything. The same people are always the ones in detention, the same people keep on getting suspended. I personally don't get why punishing kids doesn't work, but it doesn't. I think kids should only be punished for really bad things like drugs or killing.
