Windows or Linux?

When you don't include Mac's in a discussion about computers... The Apple fans start ragin'. And then they abruptly close down the topic. What starts as a simple question... Turns into a war between Mac and PC haters. (Notice how there's rarely a Linux hater or fanboy?)

Different OS's are for different tasks and people. I've owned a Windows PC all my life, I know how to get around in any Windows computer (exept 8, I dont even want to deal with that) most of this war is people talking negitively about one OS because they arn't accustomed to how they operate, and think of them as "stupid." Windows is winning because they've been around a long time, a majority of people use Windows, and this IS a gaming website, and Windows is usually better at handling games than other common OS's. So there will be a large majority of Windows users here than if were were on a true computer website.

There are really nice PC's out there. You just have to pay about $1500 to get them. $300 PC's either break or become outdated within a few months. Alienware is better for gaming (and more expensive than a mac. Who knew?) . Linux has a nice interface, and a easy to use OS, just like Mac. Before you send reply's (MAC HAZ STOOPID OS I DON NO HOWE 2 YUS ITE) I know my way around PC and Mac. Mac has an easier OS, but most people grew up with and are accustomed to Microsoft's OS, so that's what they know how to use.

Without windows, I don't think I would of owned a PC, I later discovered linux. I can't imagine life without mac. Without mac, I wouldn't have anything to laugh at.

There is no winner in this argument. It has been around since competition in the personal computer market came into existence. Each OS has its own set of pro and cons and if you are just one of those people who say, "mac sucks blah blah" then you should probably exclude yourself from intelligent conversation. (On a side note Apple is a hardware and software company so they are in a class of there own.)


I use Windows 7 mainly for gaming at home. It's nice most of the time but lacks the finesse that OSX can have. It's a good overall OS for home and business use.

I use OSX on Macbook and at work. My MacPro is a powerhouse and has been steadily chugging away 24/7 under my desk for the past 3 years. I have had absolutely zero issues with any Mac that I have ever owned. People complain about the price? You get what you pay for! Apple doesn't make expensive products, other companies make cheap, nasty, plastic crap. While they aren't for everybody, Apple really makes one the the nicest and sleekest computers on the market. Paying $1500 for a laptop that will last you for 5+ years it quite good. I just feel like a lot of people are unaware of what quality is and are either bitter or butt-hurt they can't afford one. Yes, you can build a comparable Windows machine for half the cost but a Mac will last and they look amazing. Have you seen inside a MacPro? Have you seen a Retina display? Have you seen how thing the new iMac is? You really have to try out a Mac or at least give a real reason why it "sucks" before you jsut call is crap. Not to mention OSX is unix-based so all you linux nerds can still get your terminal access.

I use Ubuntu on my server and a spare laptop at my house. I really like the server distro. It's ultra stable and quite fast. I am a little bummed that they made the desktop version of Ubuntu so slick...I kind of liked the older look. I have also been messing around with Mint, which is also a very nice distro. I would use linux for gaming if I didn't have to bend over backwards to get things to play right so until then I guess Linux will just remain my "pet" os.

Windows - Generally good for about everything, great for gaming.
Linux (Ubuntu, etc) - Good for coding and web/email, also great for gaming (there are many games for Linux).
Mac - Crappy, overpriced, could possibly be good for audio recording and video editing; Good for the 700 games released for it compared to the 5,000 released to Windows.

I don't understand why everyone is hating on Macs. Considering that the company that makes them is the richest company in the world (And Microsoft isn't even in the top ten, it's being beaten by Wal-Mart )

Choose linux if you are going to be a programmer or just code something. Windows is for all type of a stuff, so you can play games,surf on net, code, program and other stuff. Apple computers are just piece of a shit. The mac computer specs costs 2 times more than normally on a windows computer. Apple computer can't be edited so much and added a such things which can be added on a windows. Apple is more for making music,drawing,photoshopping. That's it.

Linux: For programming,coding.

Windows: For everything. I would prefer windows 7 as it just got soon fixed all bugs and it's easy to use, fast and compatible. Windows 8 not secure, a bit ugly looking and a lot of bugs as it's just released.

Apple: Piece of a ...., but if you will buy it..then it's for a mixing,making music,drawing/photoshopping.

I prefer Ubuntu because it is free and excellent for programming. It also runs better on less powerful machines, and is very lightweight compared to Windows, where Windows is bloated, with too much crap running in the background. Ubuntu cuts to the basics; It has fewer useless things, in short.

Mint is interesting, but I like Ubuntu mainly because the laptop I happen to use is "Ubuntu Certified", and thus it works best with it besides windows.

I use windows 7 and 8 on a dual boot, if windows 8 could support MInecraft I'd probably switch to a windows 8 and Ubuntu dual boot.

I use Ubuntu myself and maintain a Windows partition for those 2-3 games I play on it (mind you, Minecraft is not one of them). If it was possible to play those games in Wine I'd delete Windows so fast it's digital head would pop off and get mulched in a jet engine... I hate Microsoft SOO much.

That said, I get two very different experiences when I do play Minecraft on Windows (7). So much so that I try to avoid it when I can.

Although windows is better for gamers.
I would suggest you dual boot windows and linux, because trust me, you should never actually use windows as a computer operating system.

Mac os is cool too, if you don't mind the pricey hardware.
It is also the only decent os that can run proprietary software like photoshop, office and itunes, but you really shouldn't be using any of those.

My favorite os is ubuntu.

I basicly i use 3 computers and i use on of each i use Linux (Ubuntu, of course...), Windows 7 and Mac! So i really thinks that Ubuntu is best, just that i dont know how to install Minecraft on Ubuntu... Would be happily if you tell me...

Unbuntu is a very well made and I love how easy it is to use but I use a Windows Vista cause it came with my PC and for some gaming, but since I have dual boot I can't really complain. Windows cause easy to install and use things but more for Unbuntu cause of how easy it is to use overall and cause it runs really smooth with no crashing of anything what so ever!

I use Windows, but I wouldn't say that I "prefer" it, simply because I never used another kind of OS (well, aside from DOS). I also wouldn't ever participate in an OS-bashing circlejerk and say that every OS, I don't use, sucks. I leave that to nerds, who feel the need to inflate their e-peen.
