Hey guys Ender here and I would like to announce that I have a new server soon to be public called Elite Faction. And I have a question for all you server owner/staff... How do I find a .JAR file that runs the server on 1.7.4/1.7.2 and 1.7.9? I have a feeling that it'll be a modified version of Bukkit but still, that's OK. And I need help finding a plugin that makes it so you can change the players online, like server list plus but for Bukkit (not a plugin that changes HOW MANY players online just when you hover over how many players online it shows a message).

yes thats what i dont understand... what player count you mean? ingame?

Trust me, you're gonna want spigot here, just go here: http://ci.md-5.net/job/Spigot/, click the top one without any red dots on the left titled "Build History", then under "Build Artifacts", click the spigot.jar to download it. Spigot in my opinion (I don't want to start any arguments here) is better than bukkit for a serious server that's planning to go big. Spigot uses less cpu at the cost of more ram, so it can support more players and conform to host limits easier than bukkit. However, if you just want a server for you and your friends, bukkit is the way to go. As for the plugin, you can easily change this in the server.properties with the "max-players" value. More information on the server.properties can be found here: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Server.properties. I always try to adjust settings in minecraft or in other plugins before adding new ones, it saves a lot of time and ram. Anyway, good luck with the server! This will make it so I can go onto my server any 1.7 version? plus spigot is have a MAJOR problem, if there are more then 2 players on it will crash.
Yeah, I use 1.7.2 on my 1.7.9 spigot server, and I can connect with 1.7.9 also.

Are you home hosting? if so, it may be because of your pc not being good enough, or you messed up something in the spigot config, or messed something up during the installation,
Also bukkit comunity has bettr support than spigot :/

Vanilla Minecraft does not allow for 1.7.9 users to join 1.7.4 servers, or vice versa. However, there is a land past the hacked rainbow known as "Spigot"
The latest Spigot version offers support for 1.7.* users to join. Basically, Spigot lies to the client and says it's the same version as it is.
If you don't know what Spigot is, it's basically an amp'ed up version of Bukkit. All Bukkit plugins work with it, but it helps reduce lag and other cool stuff.

That reason is that Bukkits philosophy is to have as few changes as possible to the vanilla code to implement their api. Clearly, adding a conversion layer between two different protocol versions doesn't fit with this philosophy.
The reason spigot was able to do this conversion, and not for previous version changes is there were no block changes, but only 3 minor changes to existing packets - the addition of uuid's. As both the player name and UUID are known to a server, it's just a case of sending the correct packet version to the player - no harmful side effects.

What you want to do is make a Fake Player Count?
Just to warn you, This involves having to "Inject Packets" into your server which IS possible.
But you are going to lose a LOT of respect for doing so.
