HELP NEEDED FOR BUKKIT SERVER
Hello. I'm trying to set up a server with CraftBukkit 1.2.4, and I'm having problems.
My external IP is xx.xxx.xx.xxx and when I put that into my server.properties under server-ip= and I start my CraftBukkit server, it says:
[INFO] Starting minecraft server version 1.2.4
[INFO] Loading properties
[INFO] Starting Minecraft server on xx.xxx.xx.xxx:25565
[WARNING] **** FAILED TO BIND TO PORT!
[WARNING] The exception was: java.net.BindException: Cannot assign requested address: JVM_Bind
[WARNING] Perhaps a server is already running on that port?
Now I know what you're going to say. You're going to say "take away your server IP from the properties". I'VE TRIED THAT. I honestly don't know how people are going to connect to my server without any IP.
I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PORTFORWARD EITHER. Here is a screenshot showing my portforward screen. IF I DO NEED TO PORTFORWARD THEN SHOW ME HOW.

1.After you port-forward your IPv4 address put it in server.properties.
2.Give people your IP at whatismyip.com.
3.Put your IP in servers section while uploading the server as your ip at whatismyip.com
4.While your server is running upload server.
Works for me and people are able to connect to mine when its running using my external ip even when my IPv4 address is in server.properties

You don't put your IPv4 adress into server.properties

actually i used my internal ip adress and it worked try that

you are supposed to do your IP addres! not IPv4. go to ipchicken.com to figure out your ip. and then if you need me to test it, ill come. and ill help u build if u want

No, it is the error message you get when you put your external ip in the ip section

When you port-forward successfully use your IPv4 address to connect and give people your ip that's at http://www.whatismyip.com so they can connect.
Also your IPv4 address must be your IP in server.properties in order to work

You are meant to leave that blank unless you are using hamachi (sorry didn't read all of the op, next point is still valid)
