Using the simple portforward tool wouldn't set it up i'd say. Make sure you do everything manually.

Make sure your PC has a static IP, and you are giving your friends your global IP. You should be currently dealing with your internal IP, depending on the operating system setting up a static IP should be in the advanced networking options. Make sure to set it to something like 192.168.1.10, the ten means that you have allocated a rather high IP (allocation usually starts at 192.168.1.1 ish) and no other PCs will interact with your static IP.

After your IP is static portforward that, then look up your global IP and get your friends to use that. The internal IP will not work.

so i will not use autocraft then. Also never join a server called goombaloon. The admins
are really disrespectful and only listen to their friends cause i got banned for no reason.

Okay I know your problem!! DO WHAT CHAZ SAYS BUT in the port slots type in 50500 instead of 25565, 25565 might not be able to be portfowarded on your router like mine but 50500 does most likely

I mean by 1 GB of dedicated ram? The i3 is the highest version out in the market. Also I don't expect lots of people at one time. Like I think Chaz is going to come maybe you, possibly more people. But they will be from different time zones. Like I am in PST so I will online like 3:30 - 4:30 maybe? Also sometime in the evening? On weekends I will be on more so hopefully I will have traffic on my server but not lots of people at one time. I read the ptweaks comments and they say it reduces lag by lots. I will also decrease the difficulty so less monsters spawn and less lag?

Its possible there won't be too much lag, but the autocraft functions will likely cause lag no matter what. As I said the i3 is not a suitable core, no matter what part of the range it is, it can only be a dual core.

The server may work but make sure your PC is well ventilated, give your PC the best chance possible.

Possibly, I cannot say, but the major problem you will have is with large plugins eatting up all of your processing power. As I said your i3 is only a dual core, producing 4 virtual threads. Web servers or auth servers usually have around 24 threads. So i'd say with those plugins your core will get a little stressed under the weight.

For example, I have an expensive gaming rig I built myself. It is designed for gaming and compiling program code. The fact that it has a big powerful core for gaming and compiling makes it in no way a good machine to be a server. It only uses hard drives for storage for example, meaning saving slows the server down to a crawl every fifteen minutes. It also has been optimized, like all of the i3, i5 and i7 range for normal consumer things, such as gaming, using the internet and all that. It is not however designed in anyway to support server functions. Intel and AMD both produce core ranges designed for servers, things such as Xeon cores. Their clock speed isn't that fast, but they have many threads, and work well for servers.

Basically having a fast computer, and a good internet connection doesn't mean you can run a large server. If you want a server with over 5 to 10 people and plugins without crazy lag you'll need to start spending quite a bit of money to get your machine ready.

Bumping a thread means to post an innocuous reply to a thread in order to "bump" it to the top of the thread listing. Excessive bumping will not be tolerated. Bump a thread only once per 24h.

1GB is not enough to run a server on. an i3 is also not a very good server core, with servers you want lots of threads, the max threads you could have on it is around 4. I would have suggested an i5 being ok, with 8 threads, but the 1GB will not support a bukkit server. I ran a server on 4 threads at 3.2GHz, with 1GB of RAM to see what would happen, the server crashed at ten players and I only had permissions plugins.

Do you have a idea how to make flans mod work on bulk kit. Because the installation instructions are really hard to understand.

Ehhhh that is physical game mod, it changed how the game works, rather than how the server works. Basically everyone using the server would need to install it before they could come online, although that wouldn't work because the bukkit software wouldn't support the new textures/blocks anyway.

However it could be possible to install Spout on your server, and make sure all players have the spout client, I'm not 100% sure how this works, but I believe it allows some mods to be brought onto a server. Further research would be needed to carry this out.

The other thing about this is that the speed at which the vehicles move, as well as all the spout interaction, would probably drive the server mad, likely causing it to crash out if someone tried to get into a vehicle when there is a few people online.

May I ask what spec your server is? At this stage your RAM and upload/download speed won't come into it much, you will require raw processing power to carry out complex server instructions like that.

Plugin called movecraft is the closest you will get on a server, it may be updated yet though. It allows you to select blocks and turn them into vehicles, which can then move over the landscape.

HOWEVER it causes very large amount of lag unless you have powerful tier server, at least adventure or ultimate is all that will be able to support the plugin without lagging up the server.

I don't think I have an IGN, but if I do it will Mike12345567 as it always is

How do I open my firewall
1

12/29/2011 8:13 am
Level 10 : Journeyman Miner
Depends on the firewall, btw I port forwarded TCP/UDP, my router had to option to forward both.

and ZaphodX is right, something needs to be on the end of your port forwarding for the checking tools to work, a program needs to reply that it received data, so your server should be on.

opening ports on your firewall differs depending on the firewall, and your operating system.

Assuming you are doing this on a windows machine it should have a connection firewall, opening a port on this is explained here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308127

If you have an extra firewall like mcafee or comodo then you need to look up how to open ports on the firewall that you have backing up your connection firewall. For most firewalls you simply open their program window from the taskbar where it should be sitting, then make minecraft server program a trusted application and open port 25565.

Your computer requires a static IP so that when information comes in addressed for port 25565 it can be sent straight to your PC/server. If your IP were dynamic this would be very difficult.

Use this website : http://portforward.com/ and find your Router in their router list. Follow the guide to set up port forwarding for your router to your static IP for port 25565.

Once this is done make sure your firewalls are also open on port 25565, and not blocking any info coming in through there.

Personally I have little experience with hamachi, I found it easier to set the server up with the bukkit software and a static IP, then giving out my Global IP to those I wished to join. I had teething issues with a hardware firewall of mine, as well as a software one. Make sure none of these are stopping information on port 25565, make sure your operating system also isn't stopping any info from getting through.

If your firewalls are open, static IP and your router has port forwarding on you should be able to get people to join without hamachi using your global IP. (obtainable through myglobalip.com)
