I have a server but nobody's been on since 1999. (fine nobody's been on for 2 months now). What should I do with it? Kickstart another one? I could but I don't wanna be some random server with tons of mini games. Every server has that now, so I wouldn't be special and so no one would come... Yeah any ideas for what I should? I have a budget of $400 to Kickstart it. I just need some ideas of what the server should have that's special compared to others... There's so many servers out there so I really need something creative .

There's a lot of things you can do. Like for instance post the servers on many popular websites like this one. After that is done if no one has joined start getting serious with it. Get a committed staff with the capable abilities to dedicate themselves to the server. If none of these work then base your server off of one thing. Most servers tend to fall into the Hunger Games categorie. Get the proper plugins and some good maps then people will cling to your server in no time.
So I should try doing some Hunger Games? Any other games you'd recommend that are popular?

It's nothing, just untouched survival land, but I'm willing to add plugins and stuff. But I want it to be different than other servers...

Try to think up a theme not many people use. Not many people run dedicated Creative mode servers, so if that floats your boat, give that a try. The Grief Prevention plugin will work well for that if you'd just want people to build where they want, not in square plots.

Do whatever you want. And to fix the problem with nobody coming on, try posting the server on PMC under the Servers section.
It seems Medieval kingdom servers is on it's low right now. I would make an RPG Styled server with a good map (Kingdom style). And some sort of class dividing system like the plugin towny does. And then work from that. You need to be a good builder tho and have a comitted staff.

Why not make an rp server with quests, and plots. and maybe some special spells like shooting a fireball or wither head when you rank up. also maybe built on a custom map, also take into consideration if you want enable pvp so many servers do that now.

A normal server is just right but you need a good first impression. For example is spawn nice? You can also add some nice plugins like MCMMO so people stay on longer to train there skills and make IConomy to have economy in your servers. I think a good impression is the key, for example good builds. I think you should advertise your server on websites like PMC or Minecraft server websites. Having a voting plugin is good because your server will get more known. Small servers with Hunger Games and mini games tend to fail badly. So I think a normal survival server or factions server is good. If it is just a normal survival server make sure you have a protection plugin because people don't like to get griefed. Also since the server isn't popular you can do a world restart when 1.7 comes out so new biomes get loaded. So release your server in 1.7 as a regular survival server with protection plugins or a faction server. Also you can add custom biomes by editing the world generation which makes the server different than other. Anyways I hope this helped! Just PM me if you need help.

Minigames are only on huge servers because everyone loves minigames.
I think you should make a survival or a faction server, after you server gets huge you can add mini games. But just PM me if you want me to join. I like small survival/faction servers.

Also, consider having chest shops/user shops. It makes servers more interesting.

You shouldn´t do a server that is focused on pvp/minigames/hungergames/skyblock/etc.
You should make a server that is focused on one world (+nether and end) [you can have other worlds for events or a minigame world of course]

Give people Admin rights if you can really trust them so nothing bad will happen with the server. I mean: don´t give everyone op who can pay 20$.

Try and make it RPGish, and give it a custom map. Regular Class PvP server are common. Sounds good to me. If it has non-PvP zones, I might try it. I can help build/design classes, if you'd like.
