I choose Java because redstone is completely broken on bedrock, and Java is easier to customize
Its pretty muched summed up to their selling points:
Bedrock: Has compatibility with other platforms, so friends can play with each other more easier, optimised for mobile devices, and is portable so you can play anywhere.
Java: Is more largely customisable, containing mods, datapacks and better servers

Both are really good and pretty much the same.
They're equal because Bedrock is more convenient for people who can't/don't use their computer for gaming, since they can play on their phone or tablet, Xbox, or Switch. (I think there are other versions too but I forget which, I just know you can play on mobile, Xbox, Switch, and Windows 10.)
But Java Edition is the only version I play, and I consider it one of my favorite games of all time.
