Mob Anxiety
Hey PMC!
I'm trying to figure out why mobs give me random anxiety these days. When I was younger, I played for hours on end without batting an eye, except maybe for the endermen after they aggro. Now, my heart lurches if I see a skeleton walking out of a dark cave (especially into my strip mine). I'm also deeply unsettled by the fact the zombies' skin is almost the same color as grass.
Perhaps I'm only just now realizing how scary mobs would be IRL. IDK, I've played horror games like outlast and until dawn before, but now minecraft mobs are scary? OOF.

I don't usually find mobs too scary but I've been playing on a hardcore world for a while now and they get a lot scarier when you can't respawn. There have been a lot of times creepers sneak up on me and once i wan't fast enough with my shield and i got down to 3 hearts. now THAT was scary.

Honestly, I never really thought Mobs were scary, especially because I re-textured them to look like silly things (ex; Skeletons look like droids in my resource pack). Maybe it's also because I've been desensitized to their mass media appearances and are even plushies for crying out loud! If you don't want to be scared of mobs anymore, maybe try re-texturing them with cuter, derpier faces, or just go into creative mode and slap them in the face, realizing they're pretty much useless and hilarious creatures that you can beat up with the guerrilla (in 1.9+) method in the long run.
2
yeah i agree they can be scary, personally I hate mineshafts as mobs can just come from corners or above, so constantly look around. Also some of the ambient sounds are a bit eerie

As a hardcore mode player, skeletons are really frightening because they're so deadly. If you don't have a shield, one can end your run in seconds.
1
In all my time playing minecraft I haven't really delved into hardcore... that does sound scary though! I can barely handle the skellies in normal mode. Do you play hardcore often?
2
I started a few months ago, even since I never really play normal survival except when I'm making datapacks. So yeah, pretty often. It makes everything more impactful because a single mistake and you have to start over, losing everything you had.
2
That's crazy! I might try playing it soon, you've inspired me!

i think chickens are the most scariest mob of them all
this is me when i see a chicken in minecraft

Well, they do have small beady eyes and can fit through 1 block gaps... not to mention baby zombie jockeys!

Endermen used to scare me, now they only make me panic if I anger one. What really gets to me is phantoms. I anxiously watch the sky every time it rains or the suns tarts to go down. I'm afraid dot leave buildings at night because I always imagine their creepy sounds and seeing one bang into my window.
1
Oh my gosh! I came back to the phantoms and had no warning about them. I was playing and suddenly a screech came from above and I was so Shocked! Now I carry a bed in my inv lol.
3
It depends on the mob...?
2
True... For me it's the skeletons, zombies, husks... less so with creepers but if I'm not expecting a hiss then... aww man.
3
I only experience this with the new bee mobs.
2
Is it because they are so large? That's what makes the spiders creepier for me. (Spiders are cute during the day when they won't attack you unless provoked!)
1
No it's mostly because bees and wasps kinda creep me out IRL so having realistic bee noises and behavior doesn't sit well with me.
3
I had the same problem, what I would do is go on Hard, make a tower and farm Enderman, after killing tons of those you shouldn't be jumping much anymore, unless a creeper jumps you from above in a raveen.
2
Aww man, enderman scare me the least now since they are my favorite mob. Ravines in general creep me out for some reason...

I don't care if mobs are scary or not, did you take your Spanish lessons?
1
I already have. Not only have I taken up to Spanish 2, but I've also graduated High School as well. >:3
1
i am also learning french :D but i used to do spanish.
2
That's fine
2
No, because I signed up to learn French :3
2
Ok. Cool
2
I am learning German/Deutsch
1
Ok.
2
oooh...creepers scare the living bejeebus out of me
1
Especially when you hear a hiss right behind you!! :O
4
Never thought of the mobs as scary, maybe it’s all the horror games getting to your head too much?
2
Maybe... I keep expecting the chase music to start when I'm spotted in a cave lol.
3
I think most of the monsters are rather cute. Creepers, for example.
2
Oh yeah! I think the creepers are cute/nicely designed... still, cute things can't be creepy in different instances.
2
i am definitely afraid of mobs and hostile creatures. i usually play in creative, but my cousin made me play in survival and lock it in normal mode. I've been doing ok, but i've benn avoiding all mobs and noises from them i hear. i did have to face off a creeper though.
2
Oooh going from creative mode to normal mode is a big jump. I've never played hardcore but on har difficulty zombies can open doors... crazy! I hope the fight with the creeper ended well for you!
2
it did! i defeated it while my cousin was in the bathroom though, and i didn't get any gunpowder from it though, so i couldn't prove it to her.
2
Aww, that's a shame... any other fun adventures happen during your playthrough? :o
2
well i was able to build a house on a floating island i found. and i watched i skeleton burn in the daylight and it dropped a bone and i was able to tame a wolf!

I think that just like a horror game: The longer you play, the less scary it becomes. I remember being so afraid of the dark and the mobs that lurked within it during the alpha days when I started playing. Now-a-days though. Not so scary unless I'm trying to protect a village and a raid starts in which case, it's scary because I don't want to lose all my hard work.
2
Maybe I've been away so long that mobs are scaring me like they did when I first started the game. I think you're onto something about the fear of hard work, as the worst moments for me are when I hear mobs and am near lava in my mines.
3
Mobs don't really scare me much, but if a zombie falls from a overhead cave system or something that will scare me.
1
That would be insane! Especially if the fall damage isn't enough to kill it. Like a jump scare.
4
It depends on the mob, The wither skeletons scare me
1
Wither skeletons are very creepy!!
4
I remember first downloading the game 6.5 years ago, and digging a hole in the ground to avoid zombies.
3
I remember that’s what I did when I first played survival
2
:O Yeah, a hole is always a good first defense. Have you ever played in hardcore mode?
3
I don't have hardcore in my edition ;-;
5
minecraft can turn into a horror game at the drop of a hat and nobody can convince me otherwise
typically most mobs don't bother me too much, but the noises ghasts make always creep me out
