What is the stupidest rule you've ever come across on a server?
I know there's some REALLY stupid rules. I know because I've seen a few. So, lets see what you've seen, what are some rules that you've seen in servers that you just shook your head at before disconnecting from the server?

I've been in a lot of servers run by people who do whatever they wanna do, so I have quite an amount
- Op cannot admin abuse but can use op to help people like themselves
Yeah it's still op abuse, server died really quickly
- Do not grief or hack
seems normal, but this rule was in an anarchy server.
- No griefing the buildings that I made. You can however grief other people’s houses/bases.
Kinda unfair ngl
- (They didn't even write any rules)
When asked where / what the rules were, they said "you should already know the rules without needing to read them".
????????
- Report to owner if you see an op admin abusing.
So I did, with screenshots of heavy admin abuse (bedrock structure floating in sky with man-made end portal, creative mode ops respawning ender dragon) but none of the owners replied to me, like they didn't care at all?
I can't remember any more, but I'm pretty sure there's a few more I missed.

I know these are all different servers but I like to imagine that they're all the same server except for the second one lol
2
that LGBTQ, furries, Gacha lovers, and people from different ethnic backgrounds are not welcome in the server.
2
wow they really epicly DUNKED on those LIBTARDS <usa flag * 4000>
seriously though like bruh lmao

2
people who bought ranks can spam more but no-ranks cant
like whats the point of anti spam at that point
like whats the point of anti spam at that point
1
that server has reached pay-to-win levels that should never be possible
3
That you are not allowed to have your own opinion -_-
2
china in a nutshell
3
I swear I hate servers like that, they're almost always run by narcissists
2
Do not sexually assault dogs! (My friend invited me to raid a furry server)
1
I mean it is illegal…
1
leave it to a furry server to have that rule lmao
1
what does this even mean
1
I wouldn't put it past a furry server to have a rule like that
but hey, at least it's not a server centered around vore (you probably shouldn't look that up)

1
bold of you to assume i dont know what vore is.
also, i mean do you mean it as in furries do that? because only like 0.1% do, and if they do they are disliked by the fandom lolz

2
I'm not saying furries do it I'm just saying that sounds like something a furry would put in the rules as a funny haha or something
2
no invis pots
2
ah, the ole "you're not allowed to use this feature of the game because reasons"
2
antispam. you can't even ask 2 times to write to you on /msg
1
yeah I hate that function. like, seriously it's stupid
3
Not being able to wear an invisible skin
2
I mean... isn't that the case with most servers? like, pretty sure it's not that fair for someone to put on an invisible skin while everyone else has to use invis potions to be invisible
2
And the invis pots have particles too...
1
Yea i suppose well another dumb thing is that the server i like (THE HIVE) i like that you do not have to pay minecoins to play games all the other servers you have to pay for it so dumb like "hey lets make a server for money" like nobody is going to like that server you will be paying like $20 a day
8
have to pay (irl money) to use elytra/ make shops, also reset nether and end every week :|
5
that sounds like an pay-to-win server?
1
yeah, fairly that's just a pay-to-win server. however I don't get why any server would ever reset the nether and end every week, at that point just reset the entire thing every week
1
yikes

gonna bump this again, but this is the last time. not even really a rule but how a rule is enforced
if you're able to prevent something you don't want, don't punish if the plugin picks something up. for example if you have a no swearing rule, add a chat manager plugin, and when that plugin manager tells you someone used a banned word, don't punish them for it because the system already did.

I was on a server once, and there was a “NO CAPS IN CHAT” rule. It was a server with about 10 people and I got permbanned for putting one word in caps. The server was a box server on minehut.
1
who wants to bet the owner of the server was 7 and was running it off of their mother's credit card
I'll never understand having a no caps rule, literally it's JUST caps, sure it can make you seem like you're yelling but sometimes it's for emphasis, and some proper nouns are in all caps, or acronyms, there's really no reason to ban all caps.

No redstone.
I used to play on this server with land claim and every time anyone built a redstone machine even if it caused no lag it would be destroyed, it happened so often that that your now not able to even place redstone.

yeah that's a pretty stupid rule
unless it actually causes lag there's no reason to ban stuff like that
also mumbo jumbo has been angered

I was already banned from a game server because I expressed my opinion, several players in that game were teasing me on the server chat, I had said something about something else, and then they were teasing me, as if I had been "cringe", so I gave my opinion on what they did, I didn't offend anyone, and then what happened? They banned me for "giving an opinion on something that had Staff involved" because Staff was also provoking me.
Also, on this server, using a hack can get you banned for 1 day, but cursing an admin just once for "son of *****" gets you banned permanently.

yet again, people make the assumption that all members must have a shrine to every staff member on their server in their closet
yeah, sadly that type of rule is way too common.

2 words sum up all of my problems with stupid rules.
Roblox chat filter.
Why does it censor my OCs' names?!
WHY????
(I still love Roblox but I hate the filter with a burning passion. At least make it work correctly smh)

Also if you dont know what I mean, I rp Warrior Cats a lot on there and I need to put one of these: `
between the prefix and suffix.
For example instead of being able to say Darkflower, I have to spell it as Dark`Flower.

for some reason, when I try to change my name to "Triangulum598" from "Triangulum2019", it says it's an inappropriate name
no one else has it, it doesn't have any bad words in it
how the bloody hell does it get filtered?
thankfully though my oc's name (Elicia) isn't censored that I know of

I'm gonna bump the post a little by posting some of, in my opinion, the stupidest rules ever that just give the staff WAY TOO MUCH POWER.
"Staff have final say."
this one is somewhat understandable, though it should come with exceptions and ability to fight the offense if you feel it wasn't true. not only that, but it shouldn't come with punishment, just a clause stating that punishments are final and can only be undone after an appeal. HOWEVER, the rest of these, just why would you put them here unless you want moderators to be literal god?
"Don't argue with staff."
listen, don't make staff this always-right entity that never does any wrong. if the entire community is against a call they made, then most likely it was a bad call. you don't have to listen to the community inherently, you just have to let them say what they will. otherwise, staff aren't afraid of their reputation as a staff member in the community, because anyone that disagrees with them is actually breaking the rules! this rule is just a cop-out for having bad moderators, and if you need this rule because people keep arguing with staff, you need to reevaluate who you're giving staff to.
"Respect staff."
typically, in the wording, this one would be fine. HOWEVER, this then opens the door to staff just banning whoever they don't like and calling staff disrespect. not only that, but staff members should just be a member of the community that has the ability to uphold the rules, nothing more. having this rule exempts them from criticism, argument, and ANY form of defense from the member(s), which in my eyes, should never be a thing.
do you understand how many times people have gotten banned because they did nothing, got warned, said something like "I didn't do that", then got hit with "Don't argue with staff.", expressed displeasure in the staff that moderated them unfairly, and got a staff disrespect charge added to that? it's stupid, it assumes that staff members make no mistakes, and it takes power away from the community. which, fun fact, if you don't have people in your community that enjoy your community, you don't have a community.
