I would like it if 'built by hand' and 'built with bot/editor' were categories we could choose from for projects, that way we could filter the automatically built projects from the hand-built ones.

I like your style. All good suggestions including axing the majority of the categories. Thanks for the detailed post, will reread as I implement the changes.

I think that the categories have far too many possibilities. I think that some of the things that were mentioned, such as the hand/bot/editor should be a radio button when creating/editing a project, with hand being the default for already uploaded projects. I think that the team-built should just be a flag that is automatic when the helpers field contains something, since there is already a list for people that have helped with the construction. I also think that the hand/bot/editor thing should have a hybrid category, because i know of at least one project on hear where the creator built their first tower on their castle and then copied it for the rest of the castle for time reasons. These items would be with the redstone/boat/minecart/interactive flags that a person can use, and for the hand/bot/edit/hybrid, would be mutually exclusive, and the team effort would be automatic if the helpers field was not empty, with maybe a checkbox to edit the field in case there were no helpers.

New category values/choices to completely replace the current category values/choices.

Category/Type
  • Pixel Art (this would be for all of the 2d art)
  • Monument/Statue (this would be for all of the art that is not a building, such as someone building the planet earth or something)
  • Structure/Building (this would cover every building build above-ground such as towers, castles, temples, etc.)
  • Mine/Underground (This would cover anything built underground like mines and the like)
  • Sea Creation (this would cover everything involving the ocean, including docks, underwater bases, boats, islands, etc.)
  • Redstone Device (This would cover anything that is primarily created with redstone in mind, such as the ALU and Computers, Cannons, Traps, etc.)
  • Nature (This would cover farms, forests, landscaping, etc.)
  • Nether (This category would be for Nether themed creations, specifically, those in the nether)
  • Other (this category is self-explanatory)

The category categories for creations would, as shown above, be cut down severely because there are too many categories and there is a tags field that people can type in when they create their projects that they can fill with more specific definitions. The Type, Style, and Location categories should be removed and instead have searching be more related to tags than words in a post (for example, mine returns a large number of results that do not have the word mine in the title or tags or even the post at all. They return because the word minecraft is listed in one of those fields, making it harder to find projects like mine. A note would be placed next to tags submission field explaining that there needs to be a comma between each tag because i have seen several projects that have what looks like 20 tags but the person only started using commas halfway in and so they have one huge tag.

I like and want this filtering as well. It isn't always black and white but for those that are, it would be nice to allow that to be indicated. I could add them to the first list of filters (Category) but maybe we could restructure the filter lists in general. Right now the most logical place is the first set and it doesn't really go with "Tower", "Castle", "Pyramid", etc.

What does everyone think of the current filter lists? What could be added, removed, combined? There are 4 main category lists; Category, Type, Style, Location. You can combine filters from these 4 lists. So they need to describe different aspects of a project. For example: Show me Minecraft projects that are: Underground, Medieval, Castles.

I think out of the 4 main filter lists, Type is currently the least useful and a bit confusing. Maybe we move a few of the Type filters into the Style filters. Then we could change Type to describe how a project was built: "Hand Built", Bot Built", "Editor Built","Team Built", etc. What else could go with that line of thinking?

i do like this idea as well, since building it by hand seems to go better than to take a cheap/faster way out of building something.
