Hey everyone. After the likes of MGB_ and Chron made some stunning blogging competitions that a fair number of people entered, I decided to try and put on one myself.

TT's 6 Word Challenge

I will supply a word-bank of six words and you need to pick two of them. You then need to write a 6 word sentence, phrase, story or poem that includes these two words in some way.
The challenge is based off of a similar brief apparently once set to Ernest Hemingway, who went on to write "For sale: baby shoes, never worn."

Just a few rules:
- You are allowed to slightly play around with the words for example instead of "enveloped", I will allow "enveloping". In saying that, please do try to stick to the way I have written the words wherever possible.
- You can use more than two words from the word-bank, although this will probably make your entry less unique and reduce your overall score.
- Your entry must be 6 words in length although you can adjust presentation, punctuation and so on.
- Please try to avoid copying other people's entries.
- Post entries as a reply to this thread: these are far too small to be posted as blogs!
- This goes without saying: nothing inappropriate!
- Only one entry per person; you may want to take your time before posting it.
- You have until April 30th to submit your entry. Judging will then commence and the results will hopefully be published in the first week of May.

Judging:
For now I think I will judge this alone, although if there are a lot of fantastic entries, I may have to call upon someone to give me a hand!

I am envisaging the judging will have this basic layout:
Originality (out of 10) - this includes how unique your entry is and how it is presented.
Language (out of 10) - this includes how you have used vocabulary and punctuation.
Message (out of 10) - this is basically the point or story your entry is trying to make.
Effect (out of 10) - this is how effective your entry has been.
So overall the scores will be out of 40.

Prizes:
1st, 2nd and 3rd will all receive pixel trophies, a subscription, a blogging collaboration with me (if they want!) and perhaps some other things if people have any ideas!

I think that's it for now, so here is your word bank:

Word-Bank
(pick two words from the following)
paranoia, enveloped, rose, detrimental, limit, ambiance

My Examples:
Paranoia nearing, darkness calling: detrimental end.
I don't have paranoia, just limits.
Calming ambience rises, floating like balloons.

Good luck, and have fun!

The time has come for me to reveal the results. I think I will reveal the users who came in 10th - 4th, and their overall score out of 40. I will then reveal 3rd, 2nd and 1st and write a little about why I loved their entry and how it hit the brief. Feel free to PM if you are curious as to how your score breaks down, or as to what your score was if you didn't land a place in the top 10!

10th: Hollask with 30 points - "Paranoia... this feeling enforces my limits."
9th: Planetblox2000 with 31 points - "Ambiance enveloped my soul. Utter darkness."
8th: Aaron with 31.5 points - "I rose from paranoia, still paranoid."
7th: Torm with 32.5 points - "The paranoia blossoms: a twisted rose"
6th: Tech Zero also with 32.5 points - "Milk, ambient blood and pale roses"
5th: Chron with 33 points - "Enveloped in roses, petals of solitude"
4th and highly commended: kamafr with 33 points - "Medicine is detrimental to my paranoia"

3rd place:
Enveloped in despair, one rose persists.
This entry from Candlebor creates such a powerful image for me of a room "enveloped" in darkness with one sole bright rose standing to attention in the centre. I scored it 34 points, and in my opinion this thought-provoking entry thoroughly deserved 3rd place.

2nd Place:
Ambiance, the paranoia of ignoble normalcy
How Pikamoar managed to achieve so much with just 6 words is incredible: The use of ignoble next to the word normalcy creates such a high sense of contrast that the words almost harmonise together. How can normalcy not be honourable? Also the use of the comma after the word ambiance is really effective, and I just adore the flow of the words: I scored this 35 out of 40.

1st Place:
Rose-tinted spectacles. Optimism breeds limitless ignorance
This entry from HappyKeysTV was so clever in the way it manipulated the 6 words with hyphens, and negatives (limitless) to create the piece. I think that splitting the words into two different sentences entirely is very interesting, as when you read "Rose-tinted spectacles" you assume that this is going to be a cheery sentence. However, we are then cut short by a full-stop and followed with "Optimism breeds limitless ignorance". Bravo, HappyKeys, bravo indeed - the vocabulary choices were just superb, as was the message and effect it created; I gave this 38 out of 40.

I will be PMing people with various medals and what-not in due course, but for now all that is left to say is a huge thank you to everyone for entering and that I hope to host a similar (yet entirely different) contest in the near future.

Rose-tinted spectacles. Optimism breeds limitless ignorance.

Since Hyphen, rose-tinted is one word and I HOPE it counts. Also, my play on Limited being limitless, hoping this is considered as creativity.

My saying is quite proverbial, I attempted to tie in the idea of Optimism to the saying 'ignorance is bliss'. Over-justification is over.
