I just recently finished a realistic historical fiction book about 18th century pirates, and your ranks are a bit off. You don’t need to fix them, just wanted to tell you. I’m just gonna go through all of the ranks on a pirate ship. :)
All members were expected to help fight in battles or raids.
Captain- the leader, in charge of planning raids, battles or chases.
Quartermaster- second in command, in charge of inventory, discipline, distributing loot from raids. Had the power to oppose the captain’s opinions or decisions, especially if the rest of the crew agreed.
Crew/sailors- jobs on the ship like cleaning, simple maintenance, etc.
Specialists:
Sailing master- in charge of charting courses and navigation.
Boatswain- ship maintenance, rigging and sails.
Gunner- responsible for cannons, gunpowder, and weapons.
Mates- normally about 2 per ship, assisted the captain, quartermaster, sailing master, boatswain, or gunner in their tasks.
Cook- in charge of making food and managing the galley and supplies there.
Other: -not all ships had these members-
Carpenter- in charge of repairs to the ship.
Medic- provided the crew with medical care.
Musician- helped to boost the crew’s morale.
Like I said, you obviously don’t have to use all of these positions. :D
