There is a misconception where sugar cane grows faster on sand, and some say it grows faster on grass blocks.

But actually, It doesn't matter. Whatever block you use, whether it's grass block, mud or red sand, it has the same growth rate.

In snapshot 15w31a, you could resummon the ender dragon by making a creeper face structure using clay blocks.
