Subtle Variants is texture pack designed to enhance the vanilla look and feel by providing a few random and unbostrusive texture variations to the most common blocks.


Works with vanilla minecraft, does not require Optifine.

This resource pack is a work in progress and is gradually evolving through incremental updates, with frequent releases introducing fresh block variants on a regular basis. Be sure to come back and check for new versions.

Please don't hesitate to comment if you have any requests; I'll make an effort to prioritize the requested block variants.

Out of curiousity, how did you achieve variety in textures outside of modding? I take it you're making use of the new custom texture NBT mechanics combined with block rotation?

You can do that with blockstates since at least a couple of major versions. Blockstates have a "variant" property that lets you define any number of alternative texture models as well as their "weight" (meaning, their chance to be displayed). It's nothing too difficult but a bit obscure, haven't really seen it documented anywhere official.

Nice texturepack, I like the planks.
The cobblestone doesn't quite work for me with the moss detailing, I feel like that should belong only on the mossy cobblestone block itself. Otherwise great pack!

Some of the iron coal and copper textures seem a bit sparse in my opinion. And the grass variants seem a bit repetitive.
Those are my only complaints about this mod since it's really cool and I've been using it since the second update.
