    hey-hey all,

    regarding some recently-deleted posts, please be mindful that the staff team is all for showing love and support for others. we want you guys to be there for one another, and recognize the value in having a community you can fall back on for reassurance through highs, but especially through lows.

    but, we also need to be mindful of how we communicate our support for others. it's easy to fall into some bad habits that can, maybe counterintuitively, hurt more than they help. that's not to say that the term "suicide" is forbidden. i know it's a touchy subject, and the word itself kind of sticks to the roof of your mouth, but september is suicide prevention awareness month and it's good to be up front, and to use the proper term for this particular type of crisis scenario.

    the problem (if you can call it that, but i don't think of it as a "problem" so much as a "misunderstanding") isn't that you guys are trying to help, or that your vocabulary is crass or offensive. please know that. i love that you guys help each other through rough patches.

    our team is just worried for the possibility that users may feel pressure to act as crisis councilors, as opposed to as friends or those who would like to show support. this kind of pressure can have a negative effect on other peoples' mental health, especially in those individuals who do not have professional training in crisis counseling.

    if you feel a fellow PMC user is in genuine crisis, that is, you believe they're in danger of harming themselves and/or others, please contact our team before you contact anyone else. report the comment/wallpost/forums post, or else make a private ticket and/or send a private message to our team. we regularly connect people with resources for help.

    here's a thing ive documented about gen 1 pokemon:

    Inserting the Safari Zone layout into a normal battle has some interesting effects in gen 1. You just win any fight instantly.

    Basically, the PA says you don't have any Safari Balls and kicks you out of the battle.

    So, technically, it does give you an instant win, just in a roundabout way.


    Originally, I expected it to send you to a Glitch City, but I guess not. Glitches involving the Safari Zone often lead to that result.



    The strange thing is, that the PA only says the line that kicks you out of the battle AFTER you've hit a Safari Zone option. You can even go ahead and press the "ball" button to toss a ball, even if it says you have zero balls, but I believe that's only visual, the PA wouldn't trigger if it wasn't.

    Why does Ash try this trick in the show?

    I mean, the solution's right there, just gotta hack reality a bit to force the Safari Zone battle type everywhere and you're done.

    So... this is the current state of my Sonic Advance "port". This looks a lot better compared to the last time I showed screenshots of this on PMC.
    I'm excited to get to the point where I can actually start porting stages from the OG game.

    The Sonic sprites shown here aren't made by me, I'm just using them as placeholders. Once I get the basics done, I'll make a proper player object and use the actual sprites from the OG game.

    If you're wondering (or have seen it but forgot about it), this is how it looked the last time I posted about this project here:

    If you're wondering, you won't need the original ROM's assets to play this because this is being made from scratch using the not-very-known 2011 japanese Android port's assets, with sprite rips from the GBA game here and there (for comparison, Sonic 3 A.I.R.'s Lemonscript code is translated from the original assembly code in S3K's ROM, and a lot of data is pulled directly from the ROM at runtime)

    Speaking of Sonic Advance's 2011 Android port, it's the main motivation for this project, as it's capped to 15 FPS, has missing features and it uses a MIDI soundtrack (a fan mod re-adds the original music but it struggles with playing them on weaker hardware). Plus, my "port" supports non-16:9 resolutions plus features mod support built into the game.

    I have another mod idea - Edible numbers.




    They'd just be individual numbers taken from the font texture that you could eat. They'd be crafted with candles and flint, along with dye to indicate the number.
