GIMP > Photoshop

I'm aware that Photoshop might have some aspects which make it more "professional" than GIMP, but for me the whole subscription thing is generally what keeps me away from Adobe's products. GIMP may not be perfect in all situations, but it at least provides what I need it to provide me without any subscription fee nonsense. Not to mention, it's open source, so, if I wanted to, I could modify the source code to suit my needs. In any case, if GIMP isn't providing me what I need, I can use other FOSS (free and open-source software) tools such as Inkscape (for vector stuff) or something else like that to help out. I don't deny any merits Photoshop may have, but I have what I need and I don't feel like paying monthly fees for stuff I already freely own for the most part. The fact that the FTC is calling Adobe out on how they manage their subscriptions only gives me further reason to keep my distance from their overbearingly proprietary model.

This is an old video about old news at this point, but I never posted it here because I was away for that time so I'll post it now. If anyone remembers the first video I did about last year's mob vote, this is a video that followed up on that. Since the update which introduces the armadillo and 1.21 have come out, I'll be making a third video in this series which talks about those and some other things regarding Minecraft's current course.

This isn't made by me, but it's really cool! Shows off the amazing capabilities of TIC-80. I kind of wish I had this level of skill.

My gaming channel turns 1 year old today (or at least that's what YouTube says. idk if YouTube gets the dates wrong sometimes.)

Making things shouldn't merely be a means to an end. It ought to be an end in itself.

Artwork and effort has inherent value. Who cares if it's not popular? I don't make what I make for that purpose. I make what I want to make because I want to make it. I do not care if no one else cares about Roasted Meatloaf, Jelly the Not-Fish, Yellowshirt Lore, Cilerion, or any of the other things I do. I will make them anyways for as long as I wish to.

This is not to say that becoming popular doesn't have benefits. It might be helpful in terms of my Patreon (haha shameless self-promo) and stuff. Regardless, it ultimately doesn't matter whether I am "successful" or not. Making things is my main goal here and on other such platforms, and in that I am successful. Everything else is just a potential bonus.

This is why I do not do subscriber milestone specials. There's not anything inherently wrong with them, and you're not selfish or anything if you do them, but I prefer not to draw attention to my "success". I appreciate everyone who subscribes to me (and even people who don't), and I don't intend to communicate otherwise. However, it is not my Prime Directive to become "popular" or "famous". It is my goal to post what I'm going to post and do what I'm going to do.

I say all this in regards to modern mentalities towards content creation. Both here or elsewhere, there are content farms and attention-seekers. They don't value their work as much as they do getting some kind of reward or special acknowledgement. They seem to view their content as merely a way to get themselves somewhere. Whether they're interested in popularity, money, someone to hook up with, a combination of some or all of those things, or something else I didn't mention, they see that as more important than their actual work. They aren't so much artists as they are merely producers.

Money and popularity aren't bad things, but ultimately the value of your work itself is more important than either of them. Money will eventually be used up, whether from purchases or required debts. Popularity is temporary and ultimately relative to begin with. You may have hundreds or thousands of subscribers/followers, but how many of those people actually interact with you or your content on a regular basis? How many of them are even active at all?

If you're making money off your work, that's great. If you've gained a large fanbase, that's also great. If you managed to wow some special someone with what you do, that's awesome. But when all of that potentially goes away, what do you have left? You ought to know the value of what you've been able to do, whether it was fruitful or not, because one day that may be all that remains.

Custom animated video I made (using Blender) for a mysterious song snippet known in the lostwave community as "Just a Game". I originally posted it on Reddit in r/NowIKnowItsJustAGame (the official subreddit for the search effort) on June 7. Today, it has been posted on my animation YouTube channel:

Okay, so I'll give some updates and stuff:

• Song and quote of the "month" are finally changed. The new song and quote will be used for next month as well since they were introduced partway through this month. After that, it will go back to changing monthly.
  
• Since Clipchamp sharepages are no more, old content that I shared there will be reshared on my animation YouTube channel. So far, most but not all videos I've shared through sharepages have been reuploaded there.
• Roasted Meatloaf Episode 2 is available now on Scratch and the Internet Archive, but only Version 1 is up so far. Version 2, as well as the YouTube Edition, are still works in progress.
• I have a Patreon now for anybody who wants to support me there. It's still a work in progress though. I'm also trying to seek other forms of monetary income because obviously a Patreon alone isn't really enough to keep everything steady. If you have any suggestions for improvement for my Patreon page, let me know. Also let me know if you'd like to give me some other source of income. We can discuss the details on that sort of thing.
  
• I have Discord now. My tag is yesterdaysjuliantk. I also have a Discord server which you can ask about joining.
• More presences (not all of which are new) have been added to my profile, both in the banner area and in the "Other Places" spoiler on the "Links to Some Stuff" widget. Two new major presences include an animation channel (already mentioned earlier in this post) and a miscellaneous content channel on YouTube.
  
• I have made progress on projects such as Cilerion which I will eventually show you.
• As has been indicated previously, I might not necessarily be as active here as I was before since I want to balance out my activities here with other activities elsewhere.
