[2/9/25] Devlog Report
Hey! I know it's been quite a bit of time since my last update on TOTA, but I've been well at work for the past year adding a ton of fresh and brand new content to the game such as relics, spells, rooms, synergies, bug fixes, balancing, and of course- player feedback from my community!
Overview
While adding new content is always important to me and my map, I have taken less of an approach to content creeping, and moving forward with this update as prioritizing feedback first.
Bug Fixes
Yeah, bugs. We all hate them- especially me. I'm obviously not a perfect person and there's bound to be a few bugs that leak through the cracks of TOTA and I've been trying to snuff them all out with the help of the player community. Most of the larger game-breaking bugs have been squashed, but with every new content feature added, I know there will be more I need to patch up!
Game Progression
Ahhhh, the dreaded Floor 1. I've been focusing a lot more on early-game progression in TOTA with many rebalances to the Wave Rewards to allow the player to get a quick boost off their feet- and hopefully NOT fall flat trying. In the upcoming update, expect there to be new game mechanics that will help allow the players to traverse the first few floors of a run much easier!
What to Expect Next
New Spells
Spells are the main core mechanic that drives the heartbeat of this game. Without them, TOTA wouldn't be very magical now would it? I've been cooking up some new magical abilities over the past few months that you are sure to enjoy! So far, the new update is to have roughly 36 new spells added to the game with most being generally useful to all players! Additionally, many old spells have been updated and rebalanced to align more with the overall spell-crafting system, meaning that you should be getting a lot of new and cool synergies in the future that weren't possible before!
New Relics
Relics have starting growing on me, I'm not gonna lie. That's why I've gone back and given a lot of old relics a fresh new coat of paint with brand new effects, balances, and as well as a new feature called Recharging! Most relics that were a single-use before will now NOT be consumed, and instead be unusable until the player recharges them by completing waves. This should make some older relics feel much more powerful and worth purchasing in the Holy Mountain. Furthermore, I've gone ahead and added roughly 50, yes 50! brand new relics for you to unlock and try out in the upcoming update!
New Floors / Rooms
I like variety in roguelikes, so why not add more to TOTA? In the upcoming update I've added a new bustling and busy floor for you to experience as you traverse deeper into the mage academy! Additionally, be prepared to see a brand new game mechanic called sub-rooms! Currently in TOTA there is only sub rooms such as the Error Room and Red Room that players can occasionally access. While they are nice, I feel as if they weren't enough still. So, I've added all new rooms that will occasionally open up at the end of a wave for the player to visit and interact with! Treasure Vaults, Sacrifice Altars, Minatare Observatories, and even an Arcade. How exciting!
Moving Forward
Release Date
I'm one developer. I'm only human... unfortunately. I try and work on TOTA whenever I have the time to and I try and get as much done as quickly and efficiently as possible WITHOUT cutting corners. When it comes to this upcoming update, I have been working very hard on trying to push this out before June 2025. While that may seem very far away, have faith that I will try and update everyone with any questions they have with the update and release dates. I'm always free to talk to on my Discord server, as well as checking PMC quite often for any new messages! Once again, I will try and get this update out quickly for all of you to enjoy!
Future Devlogs
This first devlog for TOTA is an experiment of mine to see if I can create more clarity to my community and not leave everyone in the dark regarding my development on the game. I will try and post more devlogs in the future- hopefully once every month or so, in an attempt to see if I can reach out to more of you about the map's current status.
Once again, thank you to everyone who helps support this game- it means a lot to me! See you again soon hopefully!
