I just finished reading a book written by a friend's friend.
If I'm being completely honest, it wasn't all that good compared to what I'm used to reading.
But the guy who wrote it had this little bit at the end and beginning talking about how it was written. Just like the great works, it had plenty of "thank you's" and "I couldn't have done it without you's."
    It made me think.
If I had written something like this, I probably wouldn't have considered it good enough to publish. Which sounds harsh, and I feel kinda bad for saying it. I would have compared it to books like the Hunger Games or stuff by Brandon Sanderson. I would have been irritated that it didn't have one major point, and dissected the structure down to the paragraphs.
But that's in large part because I'm a different person. I like to make things a specific way. Often I struggle enjoying something (I consider) subpar to that. I can't be satisfied with something that could've been better.
But I'm pretty sure this guy was really proud of his book. I'm pretty sure he loved writing it. I'm pretty sure there was a lot of thought in the parts I didn't think much of, and this was probably a long-term project for him. It brought him joy, and it'll probably bring other people joy too.
So why do I think it's low quality if it's fulfilling it's purpose?
I'm just so used to amazing works of art that absolutely blow you away. To the patterns and the deepness of beauty thought out to perfection.
And sometimes I forget that so much of the beauty in life sits in the creation of it. The process of making a story is a story in of itself. That's beautiful too.
And there's also a beauty in not being perfect. Of starting out mediocre, but starting anyway. Why look down on that? It's huge!

I'm slightly disappointed with myself for thinking down of this guys book. Partially because he's a friend of a friend and there's a possibility I'll meet him. What would I say about his book? I don't think I learned a whole lot from it, but there were definitely some concepts I enjoyed. I don't want to lie and tell him it was amazing though. I certainly don't want to give him all my criticism unless he 100% wants it, because there's a lot. I have to keep in mind that some of it is just my opinion too.
I don't know. Gave me a lot to think about today.
    AvatarKage2026-09-04 14:59:59
Not everything needs to be high quality to be enjoyed by others (look at Skibidi). I know when I started writing my work sucked. At the time tho, I genuinely thought this was the best thing ever. If you're having fun, if you enjoy doing it, and if that makes you happy, then that's all that really matters.....unless you plan on going to a publisher, then a lot matters and they will crush you to dust-....anyways. First rule to anything, never compare yourself, because unless you are a professional, you will see your work as trash every single time. It took me so many years to actually look at something and be like, yeah, my work is more entertaining (not better, because you can't truly compare art for so many different reasons) than this.

If you want to offer constructive criticism, go for it, but its important to know what he is aiming for too. Like if he's just doing for fun and doesn't care of the outcome, let it go. If he's trying to learn or seek a career in this later on, definitely don't beat around the bush and put all on the table. The more he has to work with sooner, the faster he will become better at writing. If you got thoughts that may be too long to say in person, write them down as well and hand it to him. Maybe sticky post them thought-out the pages. Anyways, welcome to the world of beta reading lol

Little late to this post but I've been thinking the same thing recently. It's kinda sad.

Even a year ago it felt quite a bit lighter than it does now.

Ok so kinda a different post but this is something i been seeing a LOT

so when i first joined this website in 2024 it seemed like a very safe website and everything was nice and child friendly as it should be

and at some point after many of the 2023-2024 PMCers like left or rebranded and the new generation came and now most of it is a bunch of quite freaky everything so to say like i cant open the wallpost area without running into some kind of not so good themed wallpost and i dont know if its just cause when i first joined i did not have many subscribers so i did not see that many things or if it has just got that bad in recent age especially towards a certain PMCer cOUGh CouGH zomphey-COUGH

but yea at the end of it all i want to remind everyone that while this is a site for all ages 13 and up ( if i remember correctly ) that still does not mean one should be behaving this way so yea lets try to clean this place up ay? :D

So I've been wanting to write a very specific story, but had no idea how to start it. It was a bit of an issue until I realized that I don't technically have to start writing the beginning. I could write the part that I have most vivid in my head. Then everything else will start falling into place. That's how I always write little short stories normally, and if I publish it I'll probably rewrite most of it anyway. And! That way when I write the beginning I'll already know the characters and world really well!

So I started close to the end. Right with the emotional turmoil. It was awesome.

I have all the answers to my old questions.
But I keep asking them anyway because looking for new ones is hard.
The questions have formed ruts in my mind, and it's easy to slip into them.
Not that they were bad to ask. They were important before, but I have to go deeper again.
And... I kind of don't want to know what's in my bones. What's at the center of myself. It's so hard to cut myself apart and I'm not sure I have the energy right now.
    GlitchPro2026-09-01 23:24:28

    I love your posts btw
(don’t take that wrong of course:D)
    GalaxyCat242026-09-01 21:50:27
Uh, I guess I've just done it a lot lol
I tend to write my best description of what I'm feeling, and then if it doesn't feel exactly right, try to explain on the same page why it's wrong, try describing it again, follow whatever "that doesn't quite fit" feeling that shows up, figure out why, etc.
The more you do it the better you get. As for my specific style, I have no idea. Everyone has their own style, and pretty much any style can be awesome if you've developed your skill.
I also read a lot. That probably helps.
    ItzBlaaze2026-09-01 21:42:28
May I ask how you write like this? I have thoughts like this but I don’t know how to actually write them out lol

    Did an MBTI test again.

    This one: https://www.michaelcaloz.com/personality/

I got ENFP this time, but it was closely followed by INFP. Still pretty sure I lead with Fi, but I guess Ne is possible. As far as introversion to extroversion goes, I'm somewhere in the middle. Probably more introverted though, since I recharge alone.

Oh btw, for anyone interested in MBTI, the 16 Personalities test that shows up first when you look up MBTI is as highly inaccurate as it is highly marketed. I'd advise looking into the cognitive functions if you find the concept cool.
    GalaxyCat242026-09-01 20:51:19
    Yeah lol
The biggest issue is mostly that it has the base from a different typing system. It's literally just measuring completely different things.
    Its_Chizukiii2026-09-01 20:44:58
The 16 personalities one I also feel like has the same questions over and over-

I don't cuss irl but I cuss in my dreams and I'm pretty sure I would very easily fall into the habit if I weren't around the people I'm around as much
And man, sometimes it is sooooo tempting but my family and most of my friends would probably freak out, so I refrain
    Escapazition2026-09-01 00:42:21
I never figured out the benefit to cussing.
I think a lot of people would stop if they knew the context for each word.
    UserEthan0902026-08-31 21:54:31
I notice I cuss in my dreams somehow, but I never do it irl, there’s just something uncomfortable about doing it

The more you repeat something the more real it will seem.
So if you talk about all of the bad things in your life all the time, the bad things will look bigger.
If you talk about how you suck and you can't get better, you'll just be perpetuating that cycle.
If you talk about the faults of the people around you, you'll miss all the good things about them.
And if you repeat a lie enough? You'll believe it.

    I find this interesting.

If you talk about all of the things you're in control of, you'll feel more in control.
If you talk about ways for you to get better, that path will look clearer.
If you talk about the best parts of the people you love, you'll watch them rise to prove you right.
And if you look for the lies, if you're actually as honest with yourself as you can be? You'll make progress.

    I think that's super cool.

    Silence is so, so important
    Sitting down, still, alone
Watching the birds, the clouds, the wind in the grass
    Letting yourself be bored
    Letting your responsibilities wait
    Letting your phone wait
Thinking until you can't help but create something
Even if that thing stays in your mind
    Letting yourself think
    Right now
It's really one of the few things that will set you apart
One of the few things that proves you have an identity
One of the few things that lets you keep it all together

I'm obsessed with all those big moral questions nobody has answers to.
At what point is someone beyond redemption? Only death?
Is it right to force someone to put their life on the line for a good cause as a sentence for their crimes?
At what point is killing someone outside the law justified?
What is the relationship between vengeance and justice?
If killing someone to save another is trading lives, what makes one life more important?

I can't just settle for half answers or excuses. I need rules. Hard and fast. Rules that are tested, real, and understandable. "Well, it's a hard question" isn't good enough for me, but it's often the only answer I'm given.
Opinions, even wrong, speak of character.
    GoggleD0GG2026-08-19 17:45:20
justice effectively repays a debt. lets say someone drinks, gets behind the wheel, and injures an innocent driver. justice could look like paying off the victim's medical bills, entering rehab for alcoholism, and dedicating some time to discouraging drunk driving. it reforms the perpetrator to be a better functioning member of society, and betters the world as a whole. vengeance is punishment without repayment. in that situation, it could look like jail time with no rehabiitation, no payout to the victim, and no lessons learned.
    Escapazition2026-08-18 20:43:01
If there’s no God, morality is made up.
Because God exists, that’s how you find absolute truth and the rules you’re talking about.
The source of all good and the difference between right and wrong knows what He’s talking about.
    Sophisticated_Trashcan2026-08-18 00:07:13
    So, deeply, fascinating...
    Morality as a whole, is.

Is morality, in the end, a social construct built to withhold the integrity of the human race?
Is it souly for the survival of society?
    Or is it something more?

And when they make acceptions, what exactly is the "greater good" they do it for?
Merely protecting society from a murderer?
    Protecting those you love?
And perhaps that is enough. Perhaps in a world that will take your loved ones away, perhaps taking someone else's is fine.
But an eye for an eye makes the world go blind...
But inaction has caused you to loose that loved one and the world has already moved on...

    Wow, anywho-

talking about what has been labeled as a "monster soul" theres actually different "classes" under n u l l.

special-bars: "It's empty. It waits for its desire." (different format than the others so im seperating it)

special-disagree: "The one who wants nothing." "You disagreed with every choice the device offered. You have chosen to be void of any virtues."
special-neutral: "The one who cant choose anything." "You have chosen to choose nothing, and denied the device of its purpose."
special-agree: "The one who wants everything." "You wanted to take everything, and in turn, recieved nothing." (this is the one you got :33)
