Did you make sure to use /reload after adding the functions? Assuming you made the change during the run of your game...

Well, the poll results are in and I think it's a very interesting result indeed. Right in the middle.

To be honest I'm also not convinced that the whole thing is purely driven by programming efforts. 1.13 was also a major game changer which was also planned to be split into 2 parts and yet as time went by they released in July. However, in all honesty it's also fair to say that world overhauls have caused delays and issues before. Take 1.14 for example.

Even so... I have some major doubts, also if you take a look at what gets added into 1.17: mostly blocks where some have a cycle which changes them over time where only deepslate, powder snow and the sculc sensor actually add new game mechanics.

Buy ey... I also won't rule out the possibility that I'm getting a little too (?) cynical here. Even so... for me it would have changed a lot if they would have added the new Warden mob into 1.17 already; even if they only added it as a spawn egg which isn't part of the creative inventory but can be obtained using /give, that would actually give us something really new to play with.

Even so... thanks everyone for voting & posting!

Nah, I don't mean for the entities; those should eventually despawn themselves, but for the structure you spoke off. Since your routines place the structure it should be doable to check (and store) the location of placement. That information should then be usable to define the "force loaded" region as well as provide enough info to remove said region later.

But speaking of those entities.. I'm not sure from mind but iirc you should be able to use a flag which would prevent them from despawning, however; not sure what effect that would have on the chunk(s), could test that with a fish bucket: every fish you release that way doesn't respawn.

Anyway, I'd focus on the structure and leave the entities as they are. Maybe simply refer to this in the documentation: that unloading / de-installing would remove the structure but would leave the entities.

    Ey Superi0n!

Nice seeing you still being active and all... been a long time and I don't recall everything from mind but considering that I seem to be subscribed to you I'm pretty sure you're the guy I think you are 😁

Anyway.. You should look into /forceload. This is a vanilla command which actually allows you to forceload an area and keep it active. Check this link for the wiki page on the command which also has several examples.

While I enjoy playing with mods I also don't want them to deviate too much from Minecraft itself. In other words: enhancing my gameplay is ok, but drastically changing gameplay and/or adding whole new goals and such is a no no for me. So basically I rely on 4 main mods:
    • Tinkers Construct (better tools which still require effort to make)
    • Mekanism (for the 'tech' in the game)
    • Botania (helps enhance the "tech experience" with nature)
    • Applied Energistics 2 (the best storage facility there is IMO, but with a steep learning curve)
I think it's amazing how those 4 can work together and actually manage to enhance each other instead of adding overlap and more "bloat" into the game. However... I also use some additional mods to help make the gameplay a little smoother:
    • Iron Chests (for extra storage)
    • Integrated Dynamics + Integrated Tunnels (for cabling & inventory control)
    • Voxelmap (helps you keep track of the world)
    • Just Enough Items ("JEI"); to keep track of all the extra items and recipes.
All this combined with OptiFine (obviously) because I can't see myself playing without it anymore 😎

I even wrote a blog about my experiences, you can find that here, which is going to become a series of some sort. With a little luck we'll be working on part 2 this evening.

So.. first thing coming to my mind.. what is a player rug? 🤔

Anyway, looked into it in the mean time and also found some mods. No, you won't be able to pull this off with a datapack. Don't forget that a datapack is only a collection of vanilla aspects, but more automated. Functions can do a lot but they're still limited to (vanilla) in-game commands. And while you can add player heads into the game by applying a bit of variation you don't have any options of accessing any skin properties.

Every rule is stupid in the eyes of those that don't want to follow them. But that doesn't automagically imply that the rule(s) are actually stupid. See, I've also done a fair share of server hopping and also came across some which applied rules that didn't appeal to me. Does that make them stupid? Hardly.

IMO threads like these are stupid. Because it'll probably end up in a "whine thread", all we get are one sided stories and of course the server is "always" wrong.

To illustrate... "So I came across this server which said to be vanilla survival yet when I took down a building I got banned for "griefing", the heck? How stupid is that?!"

I'm kinda convinced that there will be players who won't think the rule is stupid just like there are players who do. Then what? ;)

I have no idea what you mean... too fast? Are you using a modded server by any chance? Because then I would start by checking its config: several servers (like Paper) allow you to fully customize all vanilla behavior and even applied some changes themselves already.

Now, I understand where you're coming from and you're absolutely right about some things but... what is the problem with claiming, economy, etc.? You should be able to just ignore all that and focus on survival. I once played on a faction server but simply turned off all PVP so that I could fully concentrate on survival.

However... that obviously does depend on the server. Yah, this is the classic server dilemma: finding a good balance between Minecraft and "enhanced" Minecraft. And it makes sense: would you enjoy spending a few hours on a build only to see it getting blown up by griefers? I'm pretty sure that a vast majority of players doesn't care about that nonsense and simply wants to.. I dunno, actually enjoy themselves? ;)

Having said that I do happen to know a server which does a good job of trying to combine the whole lot: both claiming / teleporting / etc / etc and regular survival play. In fact: they don't even have claiming, at all, but still have protected stuff.

The server is called Empire Minecraft and what makes it stand out from the rest is its world separation. Every one of their 9 servers has a town world: here you have a plot of 64x64x64 (give or take) and which is protected by default. Go into the mining or survival world otoh (these are called the wastelands & the frontier) and you'll end up in full survival mode. For example: you enter the world from one of many outposts and once you travel into the world the only way to get out is to go back to one of those outposts again. No teleporting, no nonsense, go back the way you came. There are a few enhancements: a compass actually works there and will, by default, point you to the closest outpost.

You also don't claim land there, so that's also no issue. However... you claim blocks. It's a long story ;) But in the end you'll end up in a world where you end up with full survival play.

Heck... building in the wasteland is not suggested because the world resets every so many times (usually 4 times per year) and it could go unannounced (hardly, but... it's something to keep in mind). However... that's exactly what I have done in the past: enter the wasteland with nothing, and then try to survive in there with only the resources available to me. And the best part... the moment I want back to safety I simply go to an outpost, tp back into town and I have all the luxiouries of town again.

    Maybe something to consider?

For a long time the Win10 edition didn't even allow you to bind the alt key (I use that to sneak) which seems like a trivial feature to me. It's a fun version in the overall but more too drowned in advertisements for my liking. Not to mention that the Java edition gives you much more freedom; think about mods and datapacks and such.

If you're talking about this poll then there's a good reason: a bug somewhere. I can't vote too so... it's not something on your end.

No workie because the image itself isn't there. You likely used a location for which only you have access.

Not really possible, setting this up can cause major problems.

Thing is.. MS uses a special storage location for all software that originates from the store. That location is not easily accessible and it'll require you to override several safety options.

There's more.. Starting these programs is done in a specific way as well, you don't start a simple executable which will make the use of a mod loader even more difficult.

Depends on my needs. For client stuff, so to actually use my PC, I use Windows 10. Even enjoy it, there's a lot more which Win10 can do than most people seem to realize.

But when I need a server I rely on FreeBSD. Perfect Unix-like OS and it even runs Java thus it can host my Minecraft server.

    None of the above.

My 4 favorite mods are Tinkers Construct, Mekanism, Botania & Applied Energistics 2.

You don't need mods for that, just edit your server.properties file and change "allow-nether"; it's a vanilla setting. Modded server versions will also have an option to disable the End.
