The fact that Minecraft is the best example that you shouldn't judge a game by its looks alone (or a book by its cover). Because this game runs so much deeper than many people give it credit for... True story: when my gf first showed me the game on her laptop I was a little "so so" about it, I heard much about it and it looked kinda fun but... nah, I dunno.

So then she sat me behind a demo version in creative and showed me some very basic redstone options of which she was convinced that I'd like them. One hour or so later and I made a rather fun "shift register" which worked decently well. I mean, OMG... that's basic digital logic circuitry, the very basis which powers PC's! Simple game indeed, NOT :) Needless to say I've become quite a fan of redstone over the years. Then we got command blocks, and their variations and nowadays even whole datapacks!

And don't even get me started on all the amazing things you can do and discover with modded Minecraft (but... more about that soonish; I'm preparing a blogpost: a "redux" of one I made a year ago).

Please explain to us how you can make sure? ;) I mean, it's easy to make unfounded claims.

    Second....

Why even assume that geyser is beyond flaw in the first place? I guess no one at geyser can be bad because... reasons?

The whole volunteered website site cannot be overrun because fame?

Oh, I know: it's open source so it CANNOT be bad.

Yet at the same time sites like "two... something" now easily advertise with a guarantee of providing hundreds of accounts.

Fact of the matter is that as soon as you enter your account + password on ANY site that isn't Mojang and/or Microsoft you're taking a risk.

What's your stake into all this? ;)

Nah, but I am passionate about computer security because it's both a bit of a passion and my work.

This is me trying to help people avoid the obvious but... it has become obvious to me that this is a lost battle. When people easily claim that a proxy server is the same thing as the actual server "because" then yah..... ignorance rules.

    Can't say I didn't try.

Then again I'm also not too surprised either, plenty of people on Steam got hit with the facts and still refused to believe because... Obviously "$famous_moron" can't be wrong because they're famous. And that ignorance hits harder on gaming platforms I guess.

I mean... it's only been a few years ago since plenty people people believed that this dude was a stock market genius:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_Madoff

    Or what about Theranos:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theranos

In case you're wondering how those last links are relevant: simple: because despite people like me telling others "this is BAD" with plenty of factual knowledge backing up the claims people still deemed it necessary to wave it all away because OBVIOUSLY Madoff was a marketing genious and OBVIOUSLY Therenos HAD to be real considering their high profile board of staff.

And we all know how that ended up.... in hindsight.

No, a proxy server cannot relay your account info without actually keeping it in store itself. Either in memory or by saving the info on disc.

But ey.... I did my part. There's no fighting ignorance.

But HOW can a proxy server authenticate your account without knowing anything about you?

It's kinda obvious that you don't have a single clue about how this thing actually works.

Well.... I dunno what to say.... because it's kinda obvious people don't even bother to think this through. Either that or the educational system really hit rock bottom.

    Fair warning: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/0/3283699172756933269/

That's how you may end up as... blaming the system because you refuse to acknowledge the obvious.

I'm also a rather devoted Steam user and you can see comments like that on a daily basis: "I got an invite from a trustworthy friend to vote on a website, I logged on and now all my stuff is gone. Steam is INSECURE". Yah, let's all ignore the fact that by entering your account name + password (+ optional extra credentials) onto a site that isn't Steam => you're giving your account away.

This is the exact. same. thing.

    Alas. I tried :P

This is hilarious.... and pretty sad.

We're not talking about a server, we're talking about a PROXY server. How do you expect a proxy to get your credentials onto another server without... I dunno, forwarding it? And how is that done?

    OMG.

Sure, because no one will ever change the code, promote to be using Geyser and... no harm done?

The moment you enter your account name and password onto something outside of Mojang you're giving your credentials away. It doesn't matter how they package it, it all boils down to you giving your account away hoping that the other party doesn't abuse it.

If you ever wonder why scamming and phising is such a huge issue.... I'd say this is solid proof as to why.

"Also, AntVenom would literally never promote a scam."

Maybe not knowingly, but their own video makes it quite clear that they have no issues with promoting a potential risk. Because that is what it is: the moment you go ahead and put in your account name & password onto a site that isn't Mojang itself then ... you're giving your account info away. Plain & simple.

And yah, AntVenom is advertising it. As such my comments about: that is beyond stupid.

Depixel. I always wanted a resource pack which made Minecraft look "better" but without overdoing it and turning it into something it's not. For some reason Faithfull never clicked with me, but this one... been using it for years now.

The best part, for me of course, is that whenever I play with a snapshot I don't suddenly feel like playing a completely different game. It looks a bit less detailed because you can't use the pack, but that's it and that's all.

Use the old launcher. It's still supported and allows you to easily switch between accounts without the need to constantly log on, that's only needed when you add accounts, or if you haven't played for a while.

Nonsense. It's not easier because the "new" launcher does not allow you to use multiple accounts side by side.

And another thing: the "old" (or current?) launcher remains fully supported by Mojang, so there are 0 negative effects from using it.

    WorldEdit also comes to mind.

Keep in mind though that such a change will never be immediate; the user would need to relog before things show up. And those changes are mostly cosmetic.

The rules state that you are not allowed to use the Roblox environment for dating. Now, while I understand the reason I still think it's ridiculous. Minecraft otoh... People even proposed in the game!

Makes you wonder which environment is more serious...

But all nesting aside.. Minecraft is much better in the longer run for the simple reason that Roblox only exists online. In other words: when the site goes down you can kiss all your builds goodbye.

With Minecraft otoh.. Should Mojang pull the plug someday then I'll simply continue playing offline, all my work and builds will still be available to me.

It really depends on the kind and style of server you're trying to make. I highly recommend to get a plugin which allows players to claim land which will be automatically protected and it'll allow them to build on in safety.

My absolute favorite mod for this is GriefPrevention. But do make sure you don't simply use the default values but take the time to go over the settings and customize things to your liking (and your server settings).

For example... you could allow players to earn claimblocks by being active, you could allow them to trade these within an economy, you can specify how much they can initially claim (this is quite small by default).

While CoreProtect (mentioned below) is a good mod as well it's far from ideal because it's meant to help you fix the damages after they got done whereas GriefPrevention can truly live up to its name by keeping griefers away from player builds entirely.

Appreciate the gesture but don't bother... I got too much money on the server already and well, these days I play very occasionally.

Did you make sure to use /reload after adding the functions? Assuming you made the change during the run of your game...

Well, the poll results are in and I think it's a very interesting result indeed. Right in the middle.

To be honest I'm also not convinced that the whole thing is purely driven by programming efforts. 1.13 was also a major game changer which was also planned to be split into 2 parts and yet as time went by they released in July. However, in all honesty it's also fair to say that world overhauls have caused delays and issues before. Take 1.14 for example.

Even so... I have some major doubts, also if you take a look at what gets added into 1.17: mostly blocks where some have a cycle which changes them over time where only deepslate, powder snow and the sculc sensor actually add new game mechanics.

Buy ey... I also won't rule out the possibility that I'm getting a little too (?) cynical here. Even so... for me it would have changed a lot if they would have added the new Warden mob into 1.17 already; even if they only added it as a spawn egg which isn't part of the creative inventory but can be obtained using /give, that would actually give us something really new to play with.

Even so... thanks everyone for voting & posting!

Nah, I don't mean for the entities; those should eventually despawn themselves, but for the structure you spoke off. Since your routines place the structure it should be doable to check (and store) the location of placement. That information should then be usable to define the "force loaded" region as well as provide enough info to remove said region later.

But speaking of those entities.. I'm not sure from mind but iirc you should be able to use a flag which would prevent them from despawning, however; not sure what effect that would have on the chunk(s), could test that with a fish bucket: every fish you release that way doesn't respawn.

Anyway, I'd focus on the structure and leave the entities as they are. Maybe simply refer to this in the documentation: that unloading / de-installing would remove the structure but would leave the entities.

    Ey Superi0n!

Nice seeing you still being active and all... been a long time and I don't recall everything from mind but considering that I seem to be subscribed to you I'm pretty sure you're the guy I think you are 😁

Anyway.. You should look into /forceload. This is a vanilla command which actually allows you to forceload an area and keep it active. Check this link for the wiki page on the command which also has several examples.
