So, I hit 1000 subs the other day, it's a bit of a bigger number, but I wasn't sure if or what I should do for it. Anyone got any ideas? I'm currently thinking about hosting a contest or something, but if anyone has anything cool in mind I'd be open to try something
yeah a contest would be amazing! you could always make like a new collection of whatever you do (sorry i'm not familiar with what you do like skins or packs) really just something fun that your subscribers will like :)
☆☆ The Honest Skinner Challenge ☆☆ (Original wall post by elfie_) Copy & paste this post and replace these answers with your own! Tag 3 skin artists! You don't have to be tagged to do this!
Have you ever upvoted your own skin to get it closer to trending? Is this a thing?
Have you ever downvoted someone else's skin? (Skindex) I only used skindex for a few days before I learned about pmc, so nope.
Have you ever used a base without giving credit? what's a base?
Have you ever reposted someone else's skin? heck no
Have you ever traced someone else's skin without giving credit? Nope.
Have you ever insulted someone else's skin? Not as far as I can remember, I try to stick to feedback. Unless we know each other and they know I'm being sarcastic
Have you ever complimented someone else's skin and not meant it? you can do that? I only ever mean to compliment people's work, if you didn't mean it, maybe you should have. . .?
Have you ever shaded using only noise? Naw, I never liked the look of it. If you're looking for that scattered shading look just use dithering, skins are too small for noise to be an effective tool.
Have you ever followed/subscribed to someone solely because they were hosting a contest you participated in, and only followed them for the duration of that contest? I would never know when a contest comes out, let alone who posts it. I've made friends with people who start contests, but I've always been subbed to em anyway.
Have you ever reported a skin out of spite? I'm not invested enough to report someone's stuff, unless it's outside the site guidelines. I've had a couple copycats here and there.
Skinning mentorship ting: In the past several skinning mentorship programs have been attempted, some succeeding and most failing. Because I've learnt nothing from that, I am going to give one a try. In said program I'll introduce you mostly to how to do the gradient skin style, that is mostly dead on pmc at this point ( :c ). I have no clue if any of you are interested, in case you are let me give you a brief description of what to expect and what you should have in your baggage to join.
What to expect from me and other skinners that comment on your work:
Harsher criticism than you're used to on pmc. To help you improve, there will not be much holding back. The better you get the more nitpicky it will get - for the most part this has helped a lot of older skinners get really good, so it's a tried method with success.
That you can at any given time get thoughts on your skins.
An introduction to a lot of new skinners and skin principles.
Introduction to more common practices of course.
Challenges and skin ideas to broaden your perspective on skinning.
What is expected of you:
Ability to take feedback, but also to think about why said feedback is given. Feedback is not a must to implement, so rather think about why it's given. For the most part I'll try to warrant my feedback, so you get helped towards understanding why I think the way I do. But you should also think about it yourself.
That you're motivated and dedicated.
That you're willing to do more than one type of skin (eg. not just knights or teen skins).
The willingness to explore and research several styles - no answers will just be given to you.
That you can communicate over discord (because communicating over pmc pms is a bit clunky.
If you're interested hit me up with a pm. I live in CET/CEST, so it's an advantage for me if you're around that timezone. There is no set formula to applying, but think about showing off your current work and describing what skins you like and don't like and what your goal for making skins is etc.
For the longest of times, I've wanted to conquer trending, and today with the help of a ton of talented skin-makers and friends, we're giving it a shot: A week ago I asked a lot of people to make a skin for this, and you can now see the results of our efforts.
In this collection I'd appreciate it if you diamond every skin, so the reel will be conquered. Thank you:
