Personally, I think they're both good for their own reasons. Minecraft just happened to be the one that always appealed to me more. I enjoyed the 3D open world part of it over the 2D world in Terraria. That said, Terraria has its own strong points, such as the combat and the bosses in the game. Minecraft does take it for me though.

Lately I've been playing Daruma which has been a fun RPG adventure map. It utilizes mods to add on to what the map, and story, are capable of doing. Definitely worth taking a look at.

I can make a couple of recommendations here. The "Super Hostile" series by Vechs is always good. It's mostly for older versions of Minecraft. The "Nemesis" maps by Nava are really good, more recent ones.
