The hooped starling is a bird in the Sturnidae family.
Unfortunately, it has been extinct since the 1850s because of hunting, deforestation and above all because of introduced species, which had brought new diseases which the bird had not been able to cope with.
He lived in Mascarene island of Réunion, in wetlands and marshes.
There was apparently a small difference in the individuals, the males being larger with more curved bills, while the juveniles were browner.
It ate seeds, fruits and insects.
Apparently they let themselves be approached very closely, so they were easy to catch and had become pets at the time.
