this mod lets you craft obsidian from coal and a lava bucket!
installation:
you need MightyPork's custom custom recipes mod
http://www.planetminecraft.com/mod/custom-recipes/
Once you have that just drop the .txt file into the custom recipes folder in .minecraft/mods
