published live for historical purposes. Clearly no reason to use this now!

1.4.4 (and 1.4.5) has an annoying bug where torch flames flicker in and out of existence. This fixes that bug.

If you think you don't need this mod, play 1.4.4 for a while and see how you like torches flashing around everywhere ;)

Go here for discussion of the bug, and my explanation of the fix: Mojang's bug tracker entry for this bug

Put the class file in your minecraft.jar, delete META-INF. To use with MCPatcher, do not install after MCPatcher. Install with MCPatcher (select the zip in MCPatcher). Works fine this way (thanks Haikgh)

Mojang claimed to have implemented the code I posted, but since the bug is still there in 1.4.5 something went wrong, especially since the class I posted here also works in 1.4.5 prerelease. Give it a shot if you are still seeing the flickering

I couldn't get it to work with forge. I plan to try and see if I can get some sort of work around going though.

You'd think that for a game that millions of people have bought with such a small crew that they'd at least hire a bug department or some interns, something to fix the numerous amount of bugs they have...

You mean something like this? mojang.atlassian.net/browse/MC

No, I mean hiring people who are more capable of finding bugs and fixing themselves instead of creating so many new ones. Also people who know how to look and get rid of unused code, making the game run smother and have less bugs. Minecraft is very buggy for how basic the gameplay is.

I actually just turn particles off and that fixes it ^o^

that would indeed fix it :) though now you don't have particles..

some people would definitely prefer that to installing a mod, so it's good to let people know
