The GiveBack mod gives back the amount of a certain item you used to craft another -1. For example, it takes 4 diamonds to make diamond boots. If you were to put diamond boots, at any durability, back into the crafting grid, you'd get 3 diamonds back. The screenshots will help you understand if you don't already.
