Proper steel mod is the only mod which adds steel and makes it acquirable in the actual way (by combining iron and carbon). Steel items and armour are better than iron but a bit worse than diamond as they would be in real life.

Items Added
  • steel bar
  • steel block
  • melted iron
  • carbon (item + minable ore)
  • steel pickaxe
  • steel axe
  • steel sword
  • steel hoe
  • steel shovel
  • steel chest-plate
  • steel helm
  • steel legs
  • steel boots
  • steel reinforced glass
  • steel mace


Recipes
  • melted iron = smelt iron
  • carbon = smelt coal (also appears as mine-able ore, looks like coal)
  • steel bar = Place melted iron next to carbon in a workbench (sides don't mater)
  • steel reinforced glass = a glass block goes in the middle, place steel bars in the 4 corners
  • steel mace = recipe in one of the pictures

You craft the tools, block and armour the same way you would with any other material.

In the future updates I will be adding more recipes and items to this mod. Installation info can be found in the readme.txt file in the downloaded archive

This mod uses mod-loader so make sure you install it. The following base-classes have been edited:
cg.class
mb.class

Hi, sorry but I don't want to develop any mods until Mojang actually creates the Modding API because with the release of the API all mods will need to be recoded. I will update this one but only when the new api comeso out.

this post does not have enough information in it how long does steel stuff last how fast do steel tools mine what ores can steel picks mine how much damage do steel swords and maces do how much does steel armor protect??

Perhaps reading the text slightly more carefully would help you. "Steel items and armour are better than iron but a bit worse than diamond as they would be in real life.", Basically every attribute of the items is exactly between iron and diamond. (kind of durable gold :/). Hope this helps.
