RPG Loot - Data Pack for 1.14
Current Version: 1.021

RPG Loot is a data pack that adds randomly generated items with rarities that you may remember from Borderlands, Dying Light, Darksiders II any many other games...

...and yes even Fortnite...

These items are added with the goal of making exploring much more rewarding and exciting, without breaking the vanilla game balance too much.

- Rarities -

The rarities are Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare, and Legendary.

Uncommon items provide small stat bonuses, but are abundant.
Rare items provide higher bonuses, and also more types of bonuses as well.
Very Rare items provide very high bonuses, but are much less abundant.
Legendary items provide the highest bonuses to several different stats and are indestructible, but are also exceedingly rare.

- Spawn Rates -

These are the chances of each rarity spawning relative to the others.

Uncommon: ~66.2%
Rare: ~26.5%
Very Rare: ~6.6%
Legendary: ~0.07%

- Item Balance -

Weapons and Armor have been balanced so that diamond isn't always the most powerful choice 100% of the time.

Leather Armor provides higher speed bonuses than diamond or iron, and chain provides higher max health bonuses than others.

Wooden Weapons are very fast but deal little damage, and gold weapons have powerful enchantments.

There is a full list at the bottom of this post.

- Currently Generated Items -

All types of armor are currently generated except for the turtle shell.
All Swords, Axes, Tridents and Shields are currently generated.
Bows and Crossbows only generate as legendary items currently. This is due to a lack of modifiable attributes being present on them.

- Planned Features -

Generated Turtle Shells
Named Legendary items that provide specific bonuses, and can only be found in certain locations.
Full Bow & Crossbow generation when I figure out how to make them interesting.
Rare Potions and other consumable items.
Villager Chest Generation
Mob Drops
New / Special Boss Mobs that drop higher quality loot.

- Known Issues -

Attack Speed bonuses are not functioning as intended, with weapons swinging way faster than they should. I'll be looking into this shortly.

- Compatibility -

This Data Pack is not compatible with any other mods or data packs that alter the vanilla loot tables.

- Permissions -

Feel free to use any of the content of this data pack in your own work, but please credit me if you do, and please do not re-post this elsewhere without crediting me.

- Thanks -

I have to thank Skylinerw for writing this post on the minecraft forums

www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/redstone-discussion-and/commands-command-blocks-and/2546347-1-12-custom-loot-tables

It helped immensely and made everything a lot easier.

I also thank Ercerus for their Ancient Attribute Items data pack. I was inspired by it and it served as a useful reference while I made this data pack.

Update v1.021 (Hotfix) : 08/14/2019 7:46:05 amAug 14th

v1.021-
Fixed the spawn rates on all chests. Turns out about half of them were spawning incorrect amounts of items due to a dumb mistake I made.

Added a message that displays when the datapack is loaded using /reload. This should help avoid some confusion.

How exactly does the mentioned luck stat work? What exactly does it affect? Just the chest drops or just the mob drops? Both? Or perhaps just the already included luck attribute that modifies fishing loot?

As of right now luck affects fishing, extra items spawning in chests, and the quality of loot in chests. When it comes to chests it only improves the quality of rpg loot, it doesn't touch the vanilla loot tables.

Have you considered adding other tools to the mix? Or does their lack of interesting attributes make it not really possible?

It's definitely a possibility, but the bigger issue is that they wouldn't be interesting. I may add some that are primarily used as weapons, such as a hoe with a big damage boost and slow speed, but yeah other than that there isn't a whole lot to do with them.

If anyone has suggestions on how to make tools more interesting I'm all ears.

There is many ways, example for pickaxes, make it so that you get haste when holding it, it would be way faster mining with it also the enchantments for them are cool enough, could also put in higher fire resistance or fall damage reduce so mishaps while mining with them can be more tolerable and not just an insta dead

Those are some interesting ideas, thanks for posting them. I'll have a look into making items provide status effects.

Just tried the newest version 1.021 (Hotfix) on a new world, without any other mods or datapacks and none of the RPG Loot spawns inside any of the treasure chests, only the default loot is present.

FIXED: Alright, it looks like extracting the zip and putting the actual extracted folder in datapacks fixes everything.

Either I'm a big dummy dum dum or the right installation procedure should be to download the zip and extract it into the datapacks folder. if anyone has the same problem, try this first.

So I added the datapack to my single player world folder before I decided to add it to my server, it's a vanilla and already have a couple other datapacks that don't do anything to the loot tables. When placed on the folder, it doesn't come up when reloading or on the list, so i thought that maybe it's already in and that I should probably check a mineshaft or something. Except all the chests were broken when I was flying through one, with no special item, just the base loot table. Bug?

Edit: Flew to the end and all the chest were just normal chests. I figured my luck was just terrible, so I went to buried treasure where there would be a guaranteed drop, and still nothing.

Make sure to leave the datapack zipped when you put it inside the datapack folder. It is also possible that there is an issue I'm unaware of with the datapack, but it's been working fine on my sp and mp worlds.

Ill make sure to add a /reload message for it to avoid confusion though, as this is a recurring source of confusion.

Also something I just discovered myself, the buried treasure chests don't guarantee a drop like they are supposed to, sometimes they have too much normal loot in them so the rpg items dont have room to spawn. I'll have to fix this.

shoot. I'm going to try extracting. Some guy above had some luck with that.
Edit: Extracting actually just fixed it for me, it might be different for other people. How will the updating process be?

That's strange. Did you just extract it, then put the extracted files into a new folder? Also what do you mean by the updating process?

you plan to add more stuff as you go, right? when you do release an updated version, do I just replace the datapack in my folder with the new one?

Don't unzip it when you put it into your data pack folder, it should remain zipped.

I have also not tested it on forge servers, so that may be another issue.

I'll add an installation instructions section to the post whenI get a chance

All this data pack does is modify the attributes , name, and lore of items when they are spawned. You can do the same thing with command blocks if you would like.

What do you mean by that? Do you mean turning an item you already have into a legendary item? If so, all this datapack does is modify the attributes, enchantments, name and lore of an item. You can do the same thing if you wanted to with command blocks, but they wouldn't generate in the world.

If you add elytra, it would be nice if they were end only. Maybe a higher rarity one from defeating the dragon? But if they appear in overworld or nether, it would feel like cheating to me.

That's a fair point. I might have it so they can spawn in the overworld and nether, but they would be unbelievably rare there, but in the end they would be more common.

Thanks for the suggestion!

As for bows, make some very rare enchantments for very rare type: Mending + Infinity. As for crossbows, for very rare type enchantments: Piercing (some level, like I, II, III or more) + Multishot. And maybe max health and speed bonuses.

For the crossbow the legendary crossbow has multishot and a random level of piercing on it. Mending + Infinity on the bow would be nice for all rarities except for legendary. Legendary items are unbreakable anyways so mending wouldn't do anything.

I really appreciate the suggestions, and I'll be sure to use your bow suggestion in the future!
