~~~ Ardrossan -- a Tudor/Jacobean/Queen Anne inspired 1900s home ~~~ by Dead_Bush_Lord66(6)
Steve woke up in a unfamiliar place. Rubbing his eyes groggily, he pulled himself up. Where was he? He was little frustrated that he had been thrown out of his PvP match without warning.
No matter now, Steve thought. He appeared, it seemed, to be trapped on an island, and a very small one at that. It seemed to be hanging over the void, which extended endlessly in every single direction. Steve could not see any other masses in this inhospitable world. And he was on his own...
However, Steve discovered, much to his surprise, that he did not have a health or food bar. That was peculiar, he thought. I should be in MIneplex, shouldn't I? And then he discovered that he could fly as well. Steve eventually came to the conclusion that although he had superhuman powers, he was stuck in a world with no one around.
Then Steve found a chest containing a book. And there he read:
"A long time ago, this land was once populated by people, and it was a glorious metropolis of early Minecraft. Skyscrapers bloomed and people were always thinking of new and newer ideas, and ingenuity bloomed. Those were the golden years of this world once...
"However, after a long time, several people became divided. Some were particularly skilled at fighting, for which they stabbed and gouged in the arena for hours and days upon end. Some had knowledge of building, and magnificent structures they built, touching the sky to the sea. And some knew of redstone and experimented with it, and they built awe-inspiring clocks and mechanical devices that no one would have thought possible."
"This world, however, was not content to remain peaceful. Several players started to argue over which skills were better, others were distrustful of different skills and perhaps secretly jealous, and others simply quit due to the situation. Over time it became a full out war in the metropolitan world, and the carnage was devastating. Food was scarce, constant TNT fire could be heard, and buildings were scarred and in some cases completely annihilated...."
"In the end the remaining people decided to leave this world, but not before they destroyed all to make sure that such events would never happen again. However, they were able to preserve a 16*16 chunk of which you are standing on right now. Their powers combined to give you the power to build everything, and make this world anew once again."
To his astonishment Steve realized that a old man was standing right beside him. The old man smiled. "We know of your prowess in all three categories: PvP, building, and redstone. You have been chosen to restore this land to its former glory."
"I'll try my best. So where should I start?"
"You need a house, don't you?"
Hello and welcome to my contest submission!
ARDROSSAN ESTATE is a special house because of its incorporation of many different style during the turn of the 19th century. These styles are:
1. Tudor Revival
2. Jacobean
3. Queen Anne
I'm not going to give you a complete dissertation on these styles (b-o-r-i-n-g) but I feel like mentioning them is quite important to the overall build because it shows off the structures found in a civilization (these are mostly related to the U.S. and the U.K).
We will go over these styles and see how they contribute to the build!
The distinctive feature here that involves Tudor Revival is the spruce wood/snow combination, which produces the effect of half-timbering. (example below)
Note the black/white lines which indicate half timbering
The second style I used is Jacobean, which is represented by the brick and sandstone combination. These are particular distinct colors of Jacobean Revival, especially with windows:
And last but not least, the third style, Queen Anne, is relevant because it is used in the turret of my house. Turrets were very popular among Queen Anne houses, as in the following example:
These were the styles I used for inspiration. This is not a house in real life, and I have tried to cram as much details from this period as possible into this house. Admittedly, this is not my best work due to the length/width constraints, and the detail is a little exaggerated, but in my view this house is a pretty good one for the constraints. I am especially proud of the interior detail I made. This build contains:
1 bed
1 bath
Living room (more like a sitting room because of space limits
Kitchen
Dining
Built in roughly 2 hours.
