Tested and working in 1.9.
This is a 1 thick above ground 12x12 sand door. I have heard I am not the first person to make one, but they YouTube video that someone showed one in I couldn't find it (maybe it was deleted?), and I don't know the size of it, but I assume it worked the same way. For the closing, I had to use 0 tick pulses to make it work. This door probably could be compacted more, and I might compact it more soon. It could also be made faster, but then it would be a little more complex. The size of this door (including the sand above ground when the door is closed) is 15x31x36.

Try to make it higher x3
(I know that a piston can only push 12 blocks, but with more complex ways it is possible to do more)
