Welcome back to another Aeroteam build!
In a recent post, we showed you a 7-Eleven. Today’s GMC 'New Look' transit bus is another one of those ubiquitous fixtures of American life, or at least it was. You’ve seen these 1950s relics, hanging awkwardly amongst the ‘80s, ‘90s or even 2000s traffic in films. Maybe you’re old/lucky enough to have ridden on one.
The New Look was produced by General Motors from 1959-1986, replacing their ‘Old Look’ buses, if you can imagine such a thing. The long production run meant that the buses, and, hilariously, the name, continued to serve into the 21st century. A few might be kicking around today, probably in Canada.
The New Look’s looks are what inspired our own Blocky to recreate one of these in 1.5:1 scale. Opting for an early-build, 1963 model, he decked it out in the classic colours of AC Transit, who drove these around Oakland and San Francisco. The result exudes a lot of mid-century charm, with forward-swept windows and acres of chrome.
