The Douglas A-4 is a small carrier-based fighter-bomber built in the USA between 1955 and 1979. It was used by the USA until 2003 and is still in active service in some other air forces.
The first prototype flew on June 22, 1954 and set a new world speed record of 695.163 mph. A total of 2960 units of all variants were built of which 555 were two-seat trainer aircraft. Weighing 2.5 metric tons, it is also one of the lightest carrier-based jets in the world. It is said that the A-4 Skyhawk played a key role during the Vietnam War, Yom Kippur War and the Falklands War.
