Lore

Aldburg (meaning "old fortress") was a fortified hill-town, the ancestral home of Eorl the Young and his descendants; and the first settlement of the Éothéod in what would become Rohan. It was Eorl's seat and the capital of Rohan until Brego, his son and the second King, built Meduseld in Edoras and moved the capital there. Aldburg was located in the Folde, the heartland of Rohan, and was part of the King's Lands. It was also the location of the muster of the East-mark, one of the kingdom's three military divisions.

At the time of the War of the Ring, it was the home of King Théoden's nephew Éomer, who was Third Marshal of the Riddermark and Lord of Aldburg.

Construction

Given the town's name and origins, the build team decided that Aldburg was founded around an old Gondorian castle which Eorl had taken as his seat. His son, Brego, may have wanted something that was more authentic to their culture, and therefore buillt Meduseld. This gives Aldburg a unique look which no other Rohirric settlement has.

Aldburg can be viewed from above on ArdaCraft's dynmap. There is no download available, but ArdaCraft is a
non-whitelisted server which anyone is welcome to come and explore, provided they have installed our modpack first.
