Background:

The Amnok-class Missile Corvettes are surface warships in service with the Korean People's Navy. They are the newest and most modern surface warships in North Korea. Originally, the navy bought soviet era frigate hulls and modified them during construction. The first two ships were spotted under construction via satellite, one in Nampo Shipyard in the West Coast, and the other in Najin Shipyard in the East Coast. Their construction took long and they only entered service in 2020s with the West Sea Fleet and East Sea Fleet respectively. Unlike previous surface warships, the Amnok-class is considered to be within modern standards as it incorporated modern design features such as the reduction of radar cross section as well as the weapons layout. More ships are rumored to be built as North Korea continues to modernize its naval capability.
