ARA Espora (P-41), commissioned in 1985

Historical Background:

ARA Espora is the lead ship of a class of six corvettes built for the Argentine Navy. The ship was built at Rio Santiago Shipyard and was the first of her class to be completed. Following her commissioning, she was assigned to the Corvette Division of the navy's Sea Fleet Command based at Puerto Belgrano Naval Base. She was designed to replace the navy's World War 2 era vintage warships and would be assigned to conduct patrol duties in the Argentine exclusive economic zone.

The ship had a displacement of 1,790 tons full load, a maximum speed of 27 knots, a complement of 93 men, and a flight deck to accommodate one light helicopter. The ship is equipped with one 76mm dual purpose gun, two twin 40mm secondary guns, four launchers with Exocet Anti Ship Missiles, two machine gun mounts, and two triple 324mm torpedo launchers.
