History
The Barril'et-class was a carrier designed by Keppa Nova Drive Yards and produced for the Roccho Republic's navy in significant quantities leading up to the Astachez Civil War. The class began development towards the end of the 48,700s, throughout which a large number of Shadow Fleet attacks impacted TAUFOG infrastructure and economies across the galaxy, and which led to significant conflict between TAUFOG nations, most notably the Osphat-Tilanex War and the Klexac Sector's collapse. This led to limitations on funding for many upcoming navy development programs, and left eventual production quantities uncertain. Keppa Nova Drive Yards thus designed the Barril'et-class with the expectation that manufacturing rates would be constantly changing due to economic instability, and to allow the company to easily adapt to these changes. The carrier was composed of modular hull sections, which could be built separately and assembled in shipyards. This would let Keppa Nova leverage economics of scale by building larger quantities of smaller sections, which was quicker than full-sized carriers. Additionally, maintenance and repairs would be made simple by replacing older or damaged sections without having to take apart other sections to access internal systems and structural elements. Although the structural strength of the carrier was impacted by this modular approach, multiple connection methods and careful assembly kept the ship completely safe through combat maneuvers and engagements, with the Navy never experiencing a failure due to the design of the ship. The modular design also allowed the carrier to be equipped with additional support modules or alternate hull segments as needed for missions, giving the carrier greater flexibility while in service.
The Barril'et-class in its default configuration had six large hangar sections along its length, with space for 60 strike fighters - most often Phosiorate-class interceptors, which entered production a couple decades after the carrier - and 6 strike bombers, although many carriers exchanged the latter for additional fighters or storage space. Crew quarters and other critical systems for the hangars were positioned in the hull modules along the center axis of the ship, with two primary reactors at the aft module and two secondary reactors at the bow module. Although not initially used, by the year 48,910 ACT, the Navy had equipped almost all Barril'et-class carriers with both a small cargo and small fuel tank section, giving the carriers increased capacity to keep strike craft active longer and itself stay active longer before going to an allied base for resupply. Some ships instead used an expanded small hangar module to accommodate shuttles and gunships, and some had both hangar and hull sections with additional weapons and armor, which necessitated more reactors. The standard configuration was equipped with 70 Lezekka CorT5-02 light laser cannons, the most up to date iteration of Lezekka Technologies' Cor line, as well as 40 Bdlx Coka-series anti-fighter laser cannons and 122 Vastech D42 point defense cannons, giving the carrier a formidable defensive screen against missiles and strike craft. Although the light laser cannons could handle light capital ships such as corvettes and patrol cruisers, dedicated combat vessels such as frigates, destroyers, and cruisers were more than capable of overwhelming the Barril'et-class with time, necessitating a decent escort when operating in hostile territories.
