Concept:
2 years ago the discovery of inter-galactic portals began to allow the human race to abandon their dying planet and travel outside of their solar system to galaxies that had never even been seen before.
One year ago, the Atlas Corporation designed a device that allowed space stations to generate power from the gravity of planets, stars, and black holes. They knew this technology had the potential to push humanity to new horizons, so they continued to develop it.
Six months ago, the highly classified "Hercules" project began its design phase. The goal of the project was to build a habitat for humans that did not rely on non renewable resources like rocket fuel.
Now, the year is 2048. With all of it's power and resources, Atlas Corp. has now finished the plans for the S.S. Hercules, a space station of unprecedented size with batteries equipped with the technology necessary to derive energy from the gravity of nearby celestial bodies. They hope to begin construction as soon as possible and to be finished with the project before the year 2050.
Planning, Process, and Building Notes:
I actually started this project just planning on making the space station itself, but once it was finished I felt like there wasn't enough content and the build as a whole was generally unoriginal, so i brainstormed for a while and came upon the idea of making the space station a hologram. I had a lot of fun working on the coloring and trying to make the whole thing look like it was actually a hologram and not just made of glass.
The rendering process was initially very frustrating because I'm still new to rendering and I didn't want to pay anyone to render the build for me, but after some playing around with lights I'm very excited about my results and I certainly learned a lot during the ordeal.
This project is my first submission to a pmc contest, or any other contest for that matter, and I'm really happy about how it turned out. Let me know if you have any thoughts or criticisms :)
