It's been a while since I've uploaded a build here so I thought I would start with a small vessel I built for a competition this time last year - the Birlinn. You may also be able to see a tiny bit of the competition entry made by myself and Lord Goblin Esq. IV on the WBC Server. Also hopefully will start posting some more boats and ships soon :)

Background

The Birlinn (alternatively called the 'West Highland Galley' in the case of the larger examples) was a type of vessel commonly used in the seas and waterways of the Hebrides and West Scottish highlands well into the middle-ages.

Powered by oar and a single sail, they often varied in size with smaller vessels having as few as twelve oars whilst larger galleys sometimes had thirty-forty oars. In terms of usage there is evidence that they were used for trade, fishing, transport and even naval warfare. The lasting influence of earlier Norse vessels such as the Knarr and Karve used by Norse invaders/settlers can clearly be seen in the design and construction of the Birlinn.

Example of a reconstructed Birlinn below:

Texture Pack and Shaders:

I have used a version of WBC Builds’ new 1.3.2 texture pack with granite and grass textures found in one of WBC’s previous packs. I have also used parts of the 'Vanilla Tweaks' resource pack.

The Shaders used are BSL 1.17.1.

This is a build on the WBC Builds' server and as such I can't provide a download.
